Attending the conference were Assoc. Cancer is becoming one of the greatest burdens on healthcare systems and socio-economic development worldwide. Each year, approximately 19 million new cancer cases and 10 million cancer-related deaths are recorded globally. Without effective interventions, the number of new cases could rise to more than 33 million; and that of deaths, to over 18 million by 2050.

The situation in Vietnam is also concerning, with approximately 120.000 cancer cases recorded each year. The incidence rate stands at around 151 new cases per 100.000 people, while the mortality rate is approximately 106 per 100.000. Cancer is currently the second-leading cause of premature death in Vietnam, after cardiovascular disease. By 2050, the number of new cancer cases is projected to increase by 60 - 70% without effective prevention strategies.
In such a situation, increasing attention is being given to cancer prevention, early detection, screening and treatment. Alongside advances in science and technology, Vietnam has gradually gained access to many of the latest developments in cancer diagnosis and treatment worldwide, helping improve treatment outcomes and offering more patients opportunities for recovery.
Hue Central Hospital is among Vietnam’s leading specialized, high-tech medical facilities. With a history spanning more than 132 years, the hospital now has more than 5.700 beds across three facilities and 16 centers, together with a modern system of specialized departments and more than 4,000 staff members. Notably, in 2026, Hue Central Hospital’s oncology specialty was included for the first time in the ‘Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2026’ ranking compiled by Newsweek in collaboration with Statista. This recognition is considered a milestone acknowledging the hospital’s professional expertise, quality of treatment and sustained investment in specialized healthcare development.
