Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, said that after its 6 previous editions, the Imperial City Eye Meeting has steadily established itself as a prestigious academic forum within the ophthalmology community. The meeting has contributed to sharing the latest advances in the field, strengthening international collaboration, and facilitating the adoption of advanced ophthalmic techniques in clinical practice across Vietnam.
Highlighting the significance of ICEM 2026, Prof. Dr. Ton Thi Kim Thanh, President of Vietnam Ophthalmology Association, emphasized that as international integration continues to deepen, the ophthalmology sector must further strengthen collaboration among medical training institutions, hospitals, professional societies, and international organizations. She noted that meaningful collaboration will improve the quality of medical education, scientific research, and technology transfer, while ultimately delivering better outcomes for patients.
According to the organizing committee, ICEM 2026 takes place with 10 specialized scientific sessions focusing on key areas of ophthalmology, including cataract surgery, corneal diseases, retinal disorders, refractive surgery, and other advanced treatment techniques. The conference not only provides young ophthalmologists with opportunities to gain exposure to the latest knowledge and clinical advances but also helps strengthen professional collaboration among ophthalmic institutions in Vietnam and abroad. The event also aligns with Hue City’s vision of developing into a specialized medical hub for the Central Region in particular and the nation in general, while progressively enhancing its international standing.
During the conference, the Ministry of Health presented the “For the People’s Health” Commemorative Medal to Prof. Uday Devgan in recognition of his outstanding contributions to medical education, technology transfer, improving the quality of clinical practice, and fostering international collaboration in ophthalmology in Vietnam.
