Earlier, on July 4, patient S.A. was urgently transferred from a hospital in Da Nang to Hue Central Hospital after swallowing an open safety pin.
Immediately upon receiving the patient, the hospital’s Board of Directors convened an emergency consultation involving the Endoscopy Center, the Department of Surgery, and the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Department to determine the optimal intervention plan. The multidisciplinary team performed an emergency endoscopic procedure, with close coordination between anesthesiology and resuscitation, using advanced endoscopic techniques, and successfully removed the safety pin from the esophagus without causing any further injury or complications.
According to the doctors, an open safety pin is among the most challenging foreign objects to remove during pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy because its sharp tip can easily cause injury during the procedure. Following close postoperative monitoring, the patient made a stable recovery and was discharged from the hospital.
Beyond its successful treatment of complex cases, Hue Central Hospital recently received welcome news as it was listed for the first time in the “Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2026” ranking, published by Newsweek magazine, in collaboration with data research firm Statista, in the Oncology medical specialty, on June 17, 2026.
The successful management of exceptionally difficult cases and international recognition not only affirm the professional capacity of the hospital’s medical staff but also enhance the position of Hue Central Hospital, gradually bringing Vietnam’s healthcare brand to regional and international prominence.
