Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long recently signed a decision approving the plan to implement the healthcare network development strategy for the 2021- 2030 period, prioritizing the development of six hospitals to meet international standards, including Hue Central Hospital (HCH). With a 130-year tradition, Hue Central Hospital is seizing numerous development opportunities. Hue Today Weekly had an interview with Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of HCH, who shared the following insights:

Gia Hoi old quarter, located to the east outside the Citadel, was once the most bustling area in Hue Imperial Capital in the early 19th century. Today, this town, part of Gia Hoi ward (Phu Xuan district), is facing urbanization and the challenge of balancing between preservation and development. So, how will Gia Hoi develop and progress?

He is an elderly man who is 106 years old, still living in Hue. It is extremely rare for a witness of the abdication of the last emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty 79 years ago to still be alive today. Not only that, he also participated in photographing Emperor Bao Dai.

“I study garden houses as a connection between Vietnamese art and culture and a deep connection with the land and spirit of Hue. Hidden cultural features still thrive in the values and identity of Hue today,” said Professor and Landscape Architect Kimberlee Stryker (University of California, Berkeley) in her “Listening to the Gardens of Hue, Vietnam” 25 years ago.

“Hue is ancient, yet always new and surprising. Anyone who has ever spent an entire misty morning or a cool sunset walking along the two banks of the Huong River will feel the magical vitality of Hue today... Hue is developing day by day, gradually worthy a city of heritage, a future center of specialized culture, education, tourism and healthcare of the country and the region” - These are the deep feelings of a distant friend about a Hue that is "forever beautiful and poetic".

Few people know that within the premises of the Phuong Duc Primary School at 245 Bui Thi Xuan, Hue City, there exists the only remaining mountain and river deity worship place in the country today - the Son Xuyen Esplanade.
