Leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training visit and encourage the education sector of Hue City

HNN.VN - On the afternoon of November 5th, a working delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), led by Standing Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong, visited, encouraged, and presented support gifts to the education sector of Hue City to help overcome flood damage.

According to a report from Hue City Department of Education and Training, during the recent flood, thanks to proactive prevention measures by schools, damage to both people and school facilities was minimized. The total damage across the education sector was estimated at over 18 billion VND, mainly to facilities and teaching equipment. An estimated 2.648 sets of textbooks were damaged.

The Department promptly directed schools to organize cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, while preparing all necessary conditions to resume teaching immediately after the floodwaters receded. As of November 5th, 282 out of 569 schools had reopened, while 16 schools were holding online classes.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee Phan Thien Dinh said that thanks to timely and determined direction along with proactive response measures, the city had minimized human and material losses caused by the floods.

Chairman Phan Thien Dinh expressed his deep gratitude to the MOET for its timely attention and support for Hue City in general and the education sector in particular. He affirmed that the city would continue to mobilize all available resources to help schools recover from the damage and stabilize teaching activities.

On behalf of the MOET’s leadership, Standing Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong expressed sincere sympathy for the difficulties and losses that Hue City and its education sector are facing. He commended the proactive efforts of the city’s education sector in disaster prevention and response. In the short term, it is necessary to take close direction to ensure students return to school safely. Make-up lessons should be arranged flexibly, ensuring scientific planning, pedagogical principles, and consideration for teachers’ and students’ well-being. “At this time, everyone has just gone through tiring days due to the floods; we should not impose rigid or stressful schedules,” he noted.

That same afternoon, the MOET delegation, led by Standing Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong, also held a working session with the leaders of Hue University (HU) and several member schools regarding the damage caused by the floods.

Dr. Bui Van Loi, Vice President of Hue University, reported that the heavy rains and flooding had caused several lecture halls, practice facilities, laboratories, and workshops of member and affiliated institutions to be submerged from 0.5 to 1.5 meters deep, affecting teaching and learning activities. Many assets, equipment, teaching tools, machinery, records, desks, laboratories, and practice workshops were damaged. The total estimated loss across the university system was nearly 60 billion VND, with the University of Agriculture and Forestry suffering the heaviest damage.

Speaking at the meeting, Standing Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong expressed his sympathy to the officials, lecturers, and students of Hue University. He also instructed the university and its member schools to continue assessing the damage and to repair or restore facilities as soon as possible within their available capacity.

On this occasion, the MOET delegation presented 650 million VND in support to Hue City Department of Education and Training; 100 million VND to Thuy Van Primary School; and 200 million VND to Hue University for flood damage recovery. In addition, the delegation donated 15 million VND to assist the families of three primary and preschool students who drowned during the floods.
