| A Wide Variety of Tet Gift Hampers on Sale at Hue Supermarkets |
Diverse Supply Sources
In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, supermarkets, shopping malls, and convenience stores across the city, including WinMart, Co.opMart, VinCom, GO! Hue and AEON Mall Hue have seen bustling shopping activity. Tet-themed displays are prominently arranged, offering a full range of goods to meet residents’ consumer demand during the traditional holiday.
According to market observations, this year’s Tet market in Hue has introduced a wide range of new products, from fresh fruit and ready-to-eat foods to traditional cakes, candied treats, and beverages. Alongside familiar items such as chung cakes, tet cakes, ginger jams, and lotus seed preserves, tea and coffee…, products sourced from various regions across the country have also been brought to Hue, further expanding consumer choices for the holiday season.
Several specialty Tet shops have introduced a variety of new fruit selections, including pink pomelos from the Mekong Delta provinces, Hong Kim organic melons from Da Lat, dragon fruits grown with bird’s nest cultivation techniques from Tien Giang, red “royal tribute” pomelos, and Hoa Binh sim-tangerines… These products not only cater to gifting demand but also meet consumers’ increasingly high expectations in terms of quality and visual appeal.
In addition, dried fruits, nuts, and ready-to-eat packaged foods, such as sausages, processed beef, fish balls, and crab patties… are expected to witness strong sales during the Tet holiday. Many young families in Hue are increasingly opting for convenient and easy-to-prepare products that still ensure adequate nutrition amid the busy festive days.
Another notable trend is the growing presence of imported dried herbs and spices, such as bay leaves, basil, oregano, rosemary, dill, coriander, marjoram, and sage… These products help refresh traditional Tet meals while also reflecting the increasingly globalized consumer habits of city residents.
According to representatives of several retail chains, goods for the Lunar New Year have been prepared in ample quantities, with stable supply and clearly listed prices to help prevent shortages and price hikes during peak shopping days.
Local Specialties in High Demand
Alongside essential consumer goods, Tet gift hampers continue to be a focal point of the year-end market in Hue. Supermarkets and stores have introduced a wide range of hamper options at varying prices, from several hundred thousand to several million VND, catering to different customer segments.
A notable feature of this year’s Tet gift hampers is the growing prominence of regional specialties and domestically certified OCOP products. The hampers are curated with familiar items such as Ha Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Thai Nguyen tea, Ben Tre coconut jam, Central Highlands macadamia nuts, Ca Mau dried shrimp, Nam O fish sauce, locally made fruit wine, and Co Tu traditional ruou can (wine), creating distinctive sets that highlight Vietnam’s rich cultural identity.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, Director of GO! Hue Supermarket, current consumer trends in Tet gift hampers are shifting toward fewer items but greater emphasis on quality and practicality. Shoppers are willing to spend more on hampers made up of “genuine” products with clear origins, prioritizing domestically produced goods that are both trustworthy and beneficial to health.
Additionally, several retail chains have introduced sculpted and engraved fruits featuring auspicious phrases such as “Phuc - Loc - Tho” (Happiness - Prosperity - Longevity), “Van su nhu y” (May all wishes come true), and “Tai loc” (Wealth and Fortune), catering to gifting demand during the Lunar New Year.
In recent days, supermarkets in Hue have recorded a significant increase in Tet gift hamper sales compared to normal periods. Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh, a resident of Phu Xuan Ward shopping for Tet at Co.opmart Hue, shared that while many families continue to preserve traditional Vietnamese Tet dishes such as chung cakes, pickled vegetables, and other familiar foods, they also wish to add new products to make their holiday trays more diverse and appealing.
