In recent years, cooperation between Hue and Korean partners has grown increasingly substantive across various fields, including culture and tourism, education, investment, and development assistance. The city has acknowledged the strong support and partnership of the Korean government, local authorities, and organizations through a wide range of concrete cooperation programs.
Hue has established friendly relations with several South Korean localities, notably through a cooperation agreement signed with Chungcheongnam Province in August 2025, along with a series of cooperation documents between agencies and institutions of both sides since 2007. The city is currently reviewing and assessing the effectiveness of agreements with Gyeongju, Dongnae (Busan), Namyangju, and Uljin to propose new cooperation steps aligned with its urban development context.
In the field of economy, South Korea’s presence in Hue remains strong. The city currently hosts 17 South Korean FDI projects with a total registered capital of over 61.7 million USD, mainly in services, garment manufacturing, industrial park infrastructure, and information technology. Bilateral trade turnover has remained stable, contributing to local economic growth.
In terms of development assistance, Hue completed 6 ODA projects worth over 55 million USD between 2007 and 2022. The city is currently implementing 3 non-refundable ODA projects supported by KOICA, including the Vietnam-Korea Peace Village in A Luoi, the “Mine Action for Peace Villages” project, and the “Building Hue as a Smart Cultural and Tourism City” project. In addition, non-governmental aid programs, volunteer initiatives, and technology transfer activities have contributed to improving social welfare, advancing digital transformation, and fostering urban development.
Tourism and cultural exchange remain bright spots in bilateral ties. The number of Korean visitors to Hue has stayed stable, alongside a wide range of delegation exchanges and artistic performances. Digital technology applications in heritage preservation, such as automated interpretation systems and 3D scanning at the Hue Complex of Monuments, have been highly praised.
