Written by the group of reporters Hoang Trieu - Kim Quy, ‘Awaking the “Green Gem” Amid the Lagoon’ is the front-page feature of this Hue Today Weekly edition.

The ‘Green Gem’ is none other than Ru Cha Mangrove Forest, often named as the ‘guardian’ of Tam Giang - Cau Hai Lagoon. It serves as a natural shield against waves, traps sediment, and sustains the unique ecosystem of the Huong River’s lower reaches.

As Hue advances its green tourism, Ru Cha stands on the threshold of being ‘awakened’ into a distinctive eco-tourism destination following the approval of Hue City People’s Committee for the project to plant a mangrove forest here. With an estimated investment of VND 73 billion for the 2025-2027 period, the forest is expected to expand from nearly 30 hectares to almost 50 hectares. This ‘Green Gem’ will be awakened through a vision of sustainable development, allowing the Cha trees to continue flourishing while serving as a natural green barrier that protects surrounding villages. At the same time, it will remain a sanctuary where visitors can find a moment of tranquility amid the pace of modern life.

The Meeting section on Page 3 features a conversation between the reporter Yen Chi and Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Tam, an overseas Vietnamese scholar, titled: ‘Wearing Ao-dai as a Way to Express Self-Respect and National Pride!’

Throughout decades of living and working both in Vietnam and abroad, Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Tam has always held a special affection for Vietnam’s traditional ao-dai. He personally funded the donation of over 1,000 traditional five-panel ao-dai to pupils at an elementary school in Hue. Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Tam believes that every nation has its own history, culture, identity, and traditional costume. Traditional costume is among the most recognizable symbols of a nation’s identity. Wearing ao-dai is not about returning to the past, but about carrying its enduring values to the future. He also emphasizes that reviving the ao-dai Vietnam as the nation’s traditional costume is essential, with Hue expected to play a leading role in advancing this journey.

‘Lengthening Tourists’ Stay, Boosting Tourism Spending in Hue’ is an article written by Huu Phuc, a  reporter, featured in the section of Economy & Development

Accordingly, by welcoming over 4.3 million tourists in the first 6 months of 2026, witnessing an increase of 30% year-on-year, Hue has recorded strong growth in visitor arrivals. Compared with destinations such as Danang and Khanh Hoa, however, Hue has yet to keep visitors staying long enough to maximize tourism’s economic benefits. Against this backdrop, the reporter argues that attracting large numbers of visitors is only the necessary condition. The greater challenge is encouraging them to stay longer. Every additional night spent in Hue not only generates more revenue for accommodation providers but also creates wider growth momentum for the city. One of the key issues Hue should prioritize is developing its nighttime economy, which is seen as a ‘vital key’ to encouraging longer stays.

This issue of Hue Today Weekly also features many other engaging stories awaiting readers, including: ‘Resolutely Addressing the Situation of ‘Problems Left Unresolved”’ by Dinh Nam; ‘Artist Nguyen Phan Returns Home by His Works’ by Dang Mau Tuu; ‘Melodies from Handmade Flutes’ by Mai Hue; ‘Village Culture in the Urban Landscape’ by Nguyen Thu; and ‘From Tuan Khai and Quang Dung to the Future of Hue Football’ by Han Dang and Thanh Nhan…
