This year's Diplomatic Corps Exhibition and Gala, themed “Crafting Power, Designing Peace”, is being organized by the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum from May 5 to 10.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung and his spouse, Tran Thi Bich Van, attended the event, along with ambassadors and representatives from more than 50 countries showcasing their national costumes, former officials, businesses, designers, and artists in the fashion industry, etc.

The event is not only an artistic platform, but also an opportunity to connect the diplomatic community, politicians, designers, and fashion enthusiasts in a space where cultural identity and the message of global peace converge.

The exhibition features typical traditional costumes of various countries, as well as outfits worn by the spouses of high-ranking leaders from different nations during significant events…

The Nhat Binh Ao dai has attracted the attention from guests for its meaning, its blend of traditional and modern styles, and the use of Vietnamese raw silk and traditional silk.

The Nhat Binh Ao dai is a traditional cultural beauty of Hue. In 1807, during the reign of Emperor Gia Long, the Nhat Binh formal court attire was officially recognised and maintained throughout the Nguyen Dynasty. It not only is a symbol of traditional beauty, but also represents the stability and prestige in the society at the time. Inspired by the beauty of the Nhat Binh Ao dai, traditional patterns with royal colors have been used and arranged in a modern and youthful way by the designer Cao Minh Tien, bringing a fresh perspective.

The designer Cao Minh Tien is currently a lecturer in the Faculty of Textiles and Fashion, at the University of Economics and Technology Industry. He has pursued fashion design since 2003, launching numerous collections and participating in many performances and cultural exchange programs in Vietnam and many countries around the world.

Following the opening Gala, the Diplomatic Corps Fashion Exhibition will continue to be open to the American public until the end of May 10, 2025.

Vietnam’s oldest cadastral record preserved in Hue

Hue is a land that bears the imprint of the southward migration and territorial expansion undertaken more than 700 years ago by the people of ancient Thuan Hoa. Very few documents reveal the timing of these migration waves or the organization and formation of Vietnamese villages in the region. Yet during fieldwork, I gained access to several ancient Han-Nom documents recording the migration, land reclamation, and establishment of villages and communes. Most notably is a cadastral record dating to the 9th year of the Dai Hoa reign (1451) under King Le Nhan Tong, compiled exactly 575 years ago.
