Awarding certificates to participants upon completion of the course |
The training course, conducted by Prof. Dr. Francis Martin, President of the French-Vietnamese Respiratory Association, along with other experts, focused on several key topics. These included both the theoretical and practical aspects of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA), cardiovascular risks and comorbidities in patients with OSA, OSA during pregnancy, and OSA in elderly patients.
As part of the course, participants had hands-on practice in setting up and adjusting non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (CPAP) machines, assessing patient tolerance to CPAP, and evaluating treatment effectiveness. In addition, the training covered the treatment of OSA using mandibular advancement devices, as well as the diagnosis and management of central hypersomnia (narcolepsy), restless legs syndrome, and periodic limb movement disorder during sleep.
The training course welcomed the participation of 135 trainees, including 130 from Hue Central Hospital and 5 from other institutions such as Ha Tinh Medical Center, Da Nang Hospital, and the Social Work and Child Protection Center under Nhan Ai Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to the theoretical curriculum, the experts also presented and analyzed clinical cases - from diagnosis to treatment - and shared practical experience in the use of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation for patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
In Vietnam, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) has not yet received widespread attention from clinicians. By participating in this course, trainees gained valuable knowledge about OSA, ranging from respiratory polygraphy testing for diagnosis to the implementation of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (CPAP) for treatment. This knowledge enables them to effectively apply these techniques in their own hospitals, helping to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment for OSA, reduce complications caused by the condition, enhance patients’ quality of life, and lessen the burden on families and society.
On this occasion, the French-Vietnamese Respiratory Association donated 3,600 euros to the Pediatrics Center of Hue Central Hospital and presented a ventilator to the Department of Endocrinology and Respiratory Medicine.
