Thousands of visitors visiting Thai Hoa Palace on the First Day of Tet

Despite the chilly weather in Hue, the conditions were ideal for spring outings, with light morning drizzle followed by warm sunshine, creating a perfect setting for outdoor activities.

At the Imperial Palace - Imperial Citadel, visitors can participate in special art performances at Thai Hoa Palace, experience traditional royal court games such as Xam Huong, Bai Vu, Tha Tho, Dau Ho, as well as the customary calligraphy-giving event for the new year – the activities that bear the cultural imprint of the Nguyen Dynasty. Unicorn-Lion-Dragon dances further added to the lively and colorful Tet atmosphere.

Many visitors took the opportunity to explore and take photos at Thai Hoa Palace, which had recently undergone restoration. This is the largest and most magnificent palace in Hue Imperial Citadel, occupying the most prestigious location within the complex. It is considered the “heart” of the imperial citadel because not only it is a remarkable architecture but also it houses the emperor’s throne - the symbol of imperial power.

In addition to the Imperial Citadel, other historical sites such as the mausoleums of emperors Tu Duc, Minh Mang, Khai Dinh, Gia Long, Dong Khanh; and Hon Chen Temple, An Dinh Palace, Hue Museum of Royal Antiquities also attracted large crowds, including many student groups and tourists from various provinces.

According to the leaders of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, starting from January 1st, 2025, the policy of free admission to heritage sites will only apply on the first day of Tet instead of the previous three-day exemption, leading to a surge in visitors on this occasion.

Nguyen Thi Lan, a visitor from Hanoi, shared: “This is my first time visiting Hue during Tet. The atmosphere here is truly special - both solemn and warm. I’m very impressed by the traditional cultural activities and the hospitality of Hue people.”

Tran Van Hung, a student from Ho Chi Minh City, remarked: “This trip has given me a deeper understanding of Nguyen Dynasty’s history and culture. Participating in royal games and watching performances at Imperial Citadel has been an unforgettable experience.”
