"The flavors of Hue’s Tet" hosted at Truong Sanh Palace - Hue Imperial Citadel |
Organized by Hue Monuments Conservation Center, “The flavors of Hue’s Tet” serves as a springtime kickoff event, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the traditional hues and flavors of Hue, evoking memories of Tet celebrations in the past.
The program featured a variety of activities, including spring-themed artistic performances, songs about Hue, imperial and folk games, calligraphy demonstrations and character gifting, as well as demonstrations of wrapping banh chung and banh tet, preparing Tet confectioneries, and showcasing Hue’s Tet culinary traditions.
In a space brimming with springtime vibrancy, traditional costumes, poetic couplets, and colorful flowers, visitors were transported back to the Tet celebrations of the royal court. They could join in wrapping banh chung and banh tet, participate in games like xam huong and bai vu, and enjoy calligraphy demonstrations. Around steaming pots of Tet cakes, the festive atmosphere came alive, enhanced by melodies celebrating spring and Hue’s cultural essence.

Visitors also witnessed a ceremonial procession offering cakes to the emperors at The Mieu Temple. The ceremonial team, dressed in solemn attire, proceeded through the main paths of the Imperial Citadel to the main gate of The Mieu, presenting the seasonal offerings in reverence to the ancestors.
Deputy Director of Hue Monuments Conservation Center Nguyen Phuoc Hai Trung shared: “The flavors of Hue’s Tet is a series of activities that we’ve organized for many years. It’s an opportunity to showcase traditional beauty and allow visitors as well as locals to understand what the life of ancient people was like, especially during the Tet holiday. The festival combines various activities, such as wrapping banh chung and banh tet, together with games from the royal court. What makes it unique is the setting within this extraordinary space.”
Participating in the event, Ms. Phuong Uyen, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, expressed with joy: “This is my first time visiting Hue, and celebrating Tet here has been such a surprising and delightful experience. The reconstructed royal Tet allows me to feel the profound cultural and historical depth of the nation. The program is definitely worth being explored for young people. It’s a completely different experience compared to what you see in movies or read about in the media.”
