Khe Tre Highland Market: A Return to the Roots

HNN.VN - On April 26, at the Ethnic Cultural House of Khe Tre Commune, the program “Khe Tre Highland Market - First Session of 2026” took place under the theme “A Return to the Roots”, drawing large numbers of residents and visitors. This marked the second market session held by Khe Tre Commune since its administrative merger, further affirming its direction of linking economic development with the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural values of the Co Tu ethnic community.

Held over a single day, the market recreated a distinctive highland cultural setting. From as early as 6 a.m., stalls were fully set up, offering a rich array of local specialties, from wild forest vegetables and fresh fruits to traditional dishes infused with the flavors of the mountains, painting a lively picture of Co Tu life.

A highlight of the program was an exhibition of models combined with environmental communication activities under the theme “When Waste Tells Stories of Peace - Pieces Forming the Nation”, helping raise community awareness of environmental protection. In addition, traditional folk games drew large participants, particularly young visitors. Cultural performances and exchanges also took center stage, where folk songs and traditional dances of the Co Tu people were vividly brought to life.

One of the most engaging activities was the opening of the Guol house: an iconic communal space of the Co Tu people. Here, visitors had the opportunity to gain deeper insight into local cultural life, customs, and traditions, as well as the community’s distinctive traditional architecture.

Under the plan, Khe Tre Highland Market will be held quarterly. Furthermore, the locality also intends to launch other agricultural markets and special editions during holidays to diversify activities, attract more tourists, and secure stable market outlets for local goods.

Beyond a trading venue, the market also serves as a “cultural bridge”, bringing the traditional values of the Co Tu community closer to the public. From cuisine and music to folk games and communal spaces, every element contributes to a rich and immersive experience for participants.

With a community-based development orientation, Khe Tre Highland Market is expected to be an attractive destination, contributing to local economic development while also joining hands to preserve and promote the highlands’ distinctive cultural beauty.
