“Digital” and “green” to enhance productivity and increased value

HNN.VN - As the costs of raw materials and fuel continue to rise and market requirements become increasingly stringent, digitalization combined with green production is becoming an inevitable direction for many businesses and manufacturing facilities in Hue City. In addition to optimizing costs and improving efficiency, digitalizing production processes also opens up opportunities to elevate quality and increase product value.

Enhancing value

The most visible signs of production digitalization can be seen in enterprises operating in industrial parks and clusters across the city. At Phong Dien – Viglacera Industrial Park, Kanglongda Vietnam Technology and Protection Co. Ltd., a company specializing in manufacturing protective gloves for export, has proactively invested in upgrading automated production lines. With more than 2,600 workers and revenue of around USD 110 million, the application of modern technology not only helps the company maintain competitiveness in demanding markets such as the Americas and Japan, but also gradually standardizes production processes toward smart manufacturing.

A representative of Kanglongda Vietnam stated that in the coming period, along with expanding production scale, the company will accelerate digital transformation and automation to improve productivity, product quality, and reduce costs. In particular, the company is also focusing on training technical and managerial skills for the local workforce, helping them adapt to a modern production environment.

Similarly, C.P. Vietnam Livestock Corporation - Hue factory branch is investing in upgrading processing lines and strictly controlling quality and food safety processes. With nearly 1,000 workers, digitalizing processes enables the company to enhance traceability and meet global supply chain requirements.

In practice, industrial growth based solely on expansion is unlikely to create breakthroughs. According to the Department of Industry and Trade, although output and export turnover in the area have increased in recent years, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and added value remain modest compared to targets. This highlights the need to shift from “extensive growth” to “intensive growth,” where digitalizing production processes and innovation play a key role.

At the same time, there are accompanying trends such as green economy, circular economy, and knowledge-based industry. With its advantage as a heritage city, Hue has many opportunities to attract clean industry projects, cultural and creative industries, biomedical industries, information technology, and knowledge-based industrial services... These are sectors that have minimal environmental impact while generating high added value and aligning with sustainable development goals.

Forming “digital” and “green” models

From practical production experience, the development of roadmaps for digital transformation and green production is gradually being implemented in industrial parks and clusters. In clusters such as An Hoa and Thuy Phuong, the goal by 2030 is for at least 30% of enterprises to adopt smart management platforms such as ERP and IoT technologies to monitor energy consumption, optimize production lines, thereby, reduce operating costs by 15-20%.

"Notably, digital transformation does not stop at applying information technology in management, but goes deeper into digitizing the entire production process—from input materials and assembly line operations to quality control and product distribution. When data is connected and processed in real time, businesses can proactively adjust production, reduce inventory, save energy, and enhance accuracy in every stage."

Alongside digitalization, the “green” factor is becoming a mandatory criterion. A pilot project for an eco-industrial cluster model in Thuy Phuong aims to encourage businesses to use renewable energy such as rooftop solar power, reuse water, and recycle by-products. Achieving environmental certifications such as ISO 14001 or green building standards not only ensures compliance but also serves as a “ticket” for deeper participation in global value chains.

In the context of Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, standards related to the environment, carbon emissions, and traceability are becoming increasingly strict. Without proactive transformation, businesses risk losing their competitive edge, especially in export sectors.

To make digitalization and green transformation true drivers of development, human resources are placed at the center. The new industrial revolution requires workers not only to have technical skills but also to master technology, operate automated systems, and to participate in technology transfer and innovation processes. To meet these demands, Hue aims by 2030 to raise the proportion of trained industrial workers to about 75-80%; with at least 40-50% of industrial enterprises applying automation and digital management solutions toward smart production.

In addition, the establishment of innovation and industrial startup centers will serve as bridges connecting businesses, educational institutions, and research institutes. This linkage, especially with Hue’s university and research system, will help promote technology transfer, develop supporting industries, and gradually upgrade the regional production value chain.

The shift from “extensive” to “intensive” growth through the twin pillars of “digital” and “green” in production management will provide a foundation for Hue’s industry to enhance productivity, increase value, and ensure harmony between economic development and environmental protection.
