Cooperation Between Universities and Businesses
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Lich, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Hue University, affirmed that fostering linkages and cooperation with businesses is a consistent, long-term objective of the faculty in training high-quality human resources. According to him, this serves not only as a bridge connecting students with real-world practice, but also creates opportunities for them to gain hands-on experience, grasp emerging trends, and better understand labor market demands while still at university.
In early March, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Hue University, in collaboration with NISSO Kosan Co., Ltd., organized a workshop themed “Opportunities to Become Engineers Working in Japan at Zero Cost”, opening up promising prospects for students’ academic and international career development. Beyond information sharing, the event also marked the beginning of cooperation between the university and the Japanese business in training high-quality engineers, moving toward a model of education closely aligned with the practical demands of the global labor market.
Through this cooperation program, students of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Hue University are eligible to receive scholarships of USD 250 per student per year during their participation. They are also provided with free Japanese language training to achieve N3 proficiency. In addition, students gain access to an engineering training pathway aligned with Japanese corporate standards.
Insights shared by industry representatives and experts have helped students gain a clearer perspective on the pathway to becoming engineers in an international working environment. At the same time, the program underscores the Faculty of Engineering and Technology’s commitment to internationally integrated and globally oriented training. With the support of international partners such as NISSO, the faculty continues to broaden opportunities for students to study, gain practical experience, and develop their careers in a global setting from as early as their university years.
Not only the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, but many other member institutions of Hue University have also actively organized activities to strengthen connections with businesses and expand employment opportunities for students. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Tan Quan, Rector of the University of Economics, Hue University, noted that the job fair is a key annual event for the university, attracting thousands of students and the participation of numerous major enterprises.
The event is typically held in April each year, alongside other recruitment drives throughout the academic year. It attracts a large number of businesses operating in finance, banking, business, auditing, and services. Through the event, hundreds to thousands of job and internship opportunities are introduced to students. A wide range of practical activities is also organized, including on-site interviews at company booths, application submission, career counseling, job search skills training, as well as seminars and workshops on labor market trends.
Aligning Training with the Trend of Market Development
According to Dr. Bui Van Loi, Acting Vice President in charge of Hue University, in recent years, the university has prioritized aligning its admissions strategies and academic training programs with the evolving needs of the labor market. Several new disciplines have been launched, while enrollment in existing programs has been scaled up to better meet the rising demand for human resources in fast-growing sectors.

In addition to traditional disciplines such as medicine and pharmacy, teacher education, law, economics, and agriculture and forestry, greater emphasis has been placed on developing programs considered to be “ahead of the curve”. For instance, the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, has introduced training programs in real estate and land management, as well as emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and data science. These areas are witnessing strong demand for human resources amid ongoing urban development and the need for more effective resource management.
Leveraging its strengths as a multidisciplinary training hub in the Central and Central Highlands as well as nationwide, Hue University currently offers programs across a wide range of fields, including natural sciences, teacher education, medicine and pharmacy, foreign languages, economics, law, arts, engineering, and technology. Throughout the training process, the university places strong emphasis on enhancing practical and internship opportunities, while strengthening linkages with businesses to help students improve professional skills and better adapt to the demands of the workplace.
Statistics from Hue University show that many disciplines maintain relatively high graduate employment rates, particularly in medicine and pharmacy, law, teacher education, economics, and agriculture and forestry. In the field of law alone, over 90% of graduates secure jobs within 6 months of graduation.
At the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, job fairs involving dozens of recruiting enterprises reveal an average annual labor demand of 2,500 to 3,000 positions, while only around 1,000 well-qualified graduates are available each year to fill these positions.
These results demonstrate that Hue University’s market-oriented training approach is yielding positive outcomes. Amid an increasingly competitive labor market and rising demands for high-quality human resources, strengthening the connection between universities and businesses is considered a key solution to improving training quality while expanding employment opportunities for graduates.
