At the meeting, Mr. Michael Szönyi introduced the vision and plans of the Z. Zurich Foundation within the Global Program for Strengthening Resilience to Natural Disasters and Climate Change by 2027, with a vision toward 2030. Furthermore, he also discussed Hue City’s challenges and priorities in disaster prevention and response to climate change issues as well as sustainable development; and, he also explored the collaboration between the foundation and the city to develop and implement new funding proposals in the areas of disaster prevention and climate change response.
It’s known that from September 2022 to 2025, ISET collaborated with the City’s Department of Irrigation and Climate Change to implement projects aimed at strengthening community resilience to natural disasters and climate change. Through this cooperation, Z Zurich Foundation and ISET have supported the implementation of projects in Hue City to deploy solutions that enhance resilience to disasters and climate change. These projects have helped strengthen the capacity of local commune authorities and disaster response task forces in supporting communities, as well as improving the effectiveness of early flood warning systems…
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh sincerely thanked Z Zurich Foundation and ISET for their support in disaster mitigation through the project. He also emphasized that, given the increasingly severe and unusual developments of natural disasters, the work of disaster prevention and response in the city is facing significant difficulties and challenges. Therefore, it requires collective effort and attention from the whole society, including ISET project.
Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh requested that Z Zurich Foundation and ISET continue to support the integration of disaster risk into urban development planning; improve databases to serve disaster prevention and response decision-making in real time; and apply artificial intelligence in reservoir operations and flood monitoring. He also emphasized the need to develop plans for disaster prevention, storm and flood response, and extreme heat events. He also requested the Foundation to keep on investing heavily in monitoring and early warning networks for storms and floods, including rainfall, water level, temperature, and wind speed stations, as well as the necessary equipment and real-time data analysis technology.
Additionally, he called for strengthening resources at the grassroots level (communes and wards), local disaster prevention forces, and providing appropriate equipment, boats, and tools; continuing to organize regular disaster prevention drills to enhance coordination among departments, agencies, and localities. At the same time, community awareness should be raised, and a village-level early warning network should be built to deliver timely and easily understandable information.
