The Federal Republic of Germany continues to support the restoration of Hue heritage

HNN.VN - On April 20th, Hue Monuments Conservation Center cooperated with Germany’s Society for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Fulda (GEKE) to hold the Completion Ceremony for Phase 3 of the Project "Conserving and restoring two out of five side gates of Phung Tien Palace and the walls connecting these two gates”. Mr. Guido Hildner, Ambassador of Germany to Vietnam, attended this event.

In the next 5 years, Germany will continue to support the restoration of Hue heritage

This project is a continuation of the success of the previous Cooperation Project between GEKE and Hue Monuments Conservation Center at Phung Tien Palace for the period of 2017-2019, with a total budget of €49,944 under the Cultural Preservation Program sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany through the Embassy of Germany in Hanoi.

The project is to preserve and restore the two gates of Phung Tien Palace and the connecting walls. The project also includes a technical training program for local masons and classes for students organized by a conservation specialist from GEKE.

Under the next five-year cooperation plan (2021-2026) between Hue Monuments Conservation Center and GEKE, the two units aim at completing the conservation and restoration of all remaining architectural elements and recreating the image of Phung Tien Palace through virtual restoration of the original architecture directly at the site.

* Before that, on the afternoon of April 19th, the Ambassador of Germany to Vietnam, Mr. Guido Hildner, paid a working visit to Hue Monuments Conservation Center.

At the meeting, Mr. Guido Hildner and leaders of Hue Monuments Conservation Center discussed the cooperating and funding plan of the German Government for the conservation and restoration of the sites in the Complex of Hue Monuments over the past years, especially for the coming period (2021-2026).

Over the past years, the German Government and a number of non-governmental organizations have contributed human, material, scientific and technical resources to conservation and restoration projects of monuments in Hue. Through these programs and projects, the German Government contributes to the training of human resources with high professional qualifications, good understanding of science and technology, and capability to continue the restoration of Hue heritage in the future.

The Ambassador also paid a visit to An Dinh Palace, which marked an important milestone in the cooperation between the German Government and Thua Thien Hue province in the field of conservation and restoration of monuments.
