The program was a meaningful activity aimed at strengthening solidarity and friendship between the younger generations of Vietnam - Laos, while helping preserve and promote the special friendship that generations of leaders and people of both countries have worked tirelessly to cultivate.

At the meeting, representatives of the Quoc Hoc - Hue High School for the Gifted introduced the school's nearly 130-year history of development, its outstanding achievements in education and training, and particularly its long-standing tradition of nurturing students who have excelled in national and international academic competitions, as well as its commitment to holistic education. Representatives of the Nguyen Du Lao - Vietnamese Bilingual School shared the school's achievements in education and training, along with its mission of preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language and culture among the Vietnamese community in Laos.

A highlight of the program was the exchange between teachers and students from the two schools, who shared experiences in teaching methods, organizing extracurricular activities, and providing life skills education. Students also enthusiastically discussed study methods, learning Vietnamese, club activities, the distinctive cultural features of Hue, and their aspirations and future ambitions.

On the same day, Hue College held a working session with a delegation from the Department of Education and Sports of Sekong Province (Lao People's Democratic Republic), led by its Director, Mr. Khamphay Simmavat. Hue College has been assigned by Hue City People's Committee to receive, provide Vietnamese language training for, and manage Lao international students before they continue their specialized studies at universities and colleges across the city. Over the years, the college has maintained close cooperation with provinces in southern and central Laos, with Sekong Province being one of its most effective and stable partners.

As of June 2026, Hue City was home to 308 Lao international students. Sekong Province alone had 17 students studying under full scholarships and two master's students. After completing their Vietnamese language program, all 17 scholarship recipients registered to pursue specialized studies at member institutions of Hue University.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Khamphay Simmavat thanked Hue College for its continuous support and for creating favorable conditions for Lao students in both their studies and daily lives in Hue. He proposed that the two sides continue to strengthen cooperation in managing, monitoring, and supporting Lao students, while also exploring the expansion of scholarship opportunities, increasing enrolment quotas, and implementing additional cooperation programs to improve the quality of human resource training.

Mr. Hoang Bao Hung, Rector of Hue College, said that the college would compile the proposals and submit them to Hue City People's Committee as a basis for developing future cooperation plans. He also expressed his hope that Sekong Province would continue sending students to study in Vietnam, particularly in technical fields and vocational education, thereby helping develop the skilled workforce needed for socio-economic development and for Vietnamese enterprises investing in Laos. Both sides also agreed to maintain regular exchanges, strengthen connections, and expand cooperation in education and training in the coming years.

Vietnam’s oldest cadastral record preserved in Hue

Hue is a land that bears the imprint of the southward migration and territorial expansion undertaken more than 700 years ago by the people of ancient Thuan Hoa. Very few documents reveal the timing of these migration waves or the organization and formation of Vietnamese villages in the region. Yet during fieldwork, I gained access to several ancient Han-Nom documents recording the migration, land reclamation, and establishment of villages and communes. Most notably is a cadastral record dating to the 9th year of the Dai Hoa reign (1451) under King Le Nhan Tong, compiled exactly 575 years ago.
