During his visit to Hue in early November 2025, General Secretary To Lam conveyed a message to the city’s Party Committee, authorities, and people: Hue must preserve its cultural identity and the distinctive character of Hue people amid a new phase of development. That reminder was not merely an expectation, but a guiding orientation for the entire term.

Facing with the growing pressure of increasing household waste volumes, Hue is confronted with the need to renew its approach to urban waste management. In the context of the circular economy becoming an inevitable trend for modern cities, to reuse is not only an environmental action but also a strategy for sustainable development.

In recent years, Hue City has strongly mobilized resources from international organizations to promote green transportation, gradually building a green city with sustainable development.

On December 2nd, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Nguyen Khac Toan held a meeting with representatives of Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park Joint Venture Company (VSIP) to hear a report on several proposed investment projects in the city.

In the tourism and service development orientation of Hue City for the 2025-2030 period, with a vision to 2045, Hue tourism aims to attract 10-12 million visitors by 2030, achieving annual growth of 18-20%, with international visitors accounting for about 45+50%. Speaking with Hue Today Weekly, Mr. Dinh Manh Thang, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Tourism Association and Chairman of Hue Tourism Association, stated that despite encouraging achievements, Hue tourism still faces issues that require bold change to achieve sustainable development.

“Dear everyone! Let's join hands to make Hue clean and beautiful again soon!” - I paused for a long moment in front of that message - a message sent out by HEPCO (Hue Urban Environment and Public Works Joint Stock Company) just as the floodwaters in Hue slowly, little by little, receded, revealing massive amounts of trash and damaged items submerged in the murky water.

On October 21, an International Workshop on the framework for green, low-emission urban development towards the NetZero goal was held in Hue City.

When the theme for World Tourism Day (September 27, 2025) was chosen as “Tourism and sustainable transformation”, many people immediately thought of Hue’s approach to tourism. In its development orientation, Hue tourism consistently focuses on promoting sustainable transformation, especially transitioning to green, sustainable tourism, adapting to climate change.

That was the theme of the national scientific conference organized by the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Hue City, in coordination with relevant agencies, on the afternoon of September 25th in Hue City. The conference aimed to provide a deeper understanding of Hue’s core values, assess its achievements, analyze challenges, and propose strategic, breakthrough solutions for developing Hue into a green, smart, and sustainable city.

In the article “Pho Loi River through the Nguyen Dynasty’s Woodblock”, the author Thom Quang cited a historical information: “In Dai Nam thuc luc woodblock No. 154, the carved page 2 recorded that in the year At Mui of Lunar Calendar (1835), Emperor Minh Mang issued an edict for Thua Thien Hue Province to dig Pho Loi River”. Pho Loi River stretches along the route from Hue, starting from the point where it meets the Huong River and then flowing out to Thuan An seaport.
