Joining hands for green tourism and sustainable development

HNN.VN - On the morning of May 29, the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the project “Hue - A plastic-reduced smart city in Central Vietnam” (TVA) project/WWF-Viet Nam, organized the event “From Check-in Green Hue to Plastic-Free Tourism - A Journey of Spreading”.

According to the organizing committee, in recent years, Hue has been gradually affirming its image as a green, friendly, and environmentally responsible destination through various initiatives aiming at reducing plastic waste in the tourism sector.

At the event, the Department of Tourism announced Hue City’s Green Tourism Criteria, one of the city’s key orientations to encourage tourism businesses to transition toward more environmentally friendly and community-responsible practices, while enhancing the overall quality of the destinations.

A highlight of the program was the “Spreading Tree - Commitment to Action for Green and Plastic-Free Tourism” activity, where travel agencies, hotels, tourist destinations, and participants wrote down specific actions to reduce plastic waste generated through business operations, visitor services, and daily activities.

On this occasion, the Department of Tourism and the TVA Project/WWF-Viet Nam also presented certificates of merit and gifts to 29 outstanding pioneering units in plastic reduction during the 2023 - 2026 period. These units included hotels, travel companies, community-based tourism destinations, restaurants, tourism service establishments, and some other pioneering units across the city.
