My Loi early morning market
HNN.VN - That is the early morning market of My Loi village, Vinh Loc commune. Before becoming part of today's Vinh Loc commune, My Loi belonged to Vinh My commune - a coastal plain, with the sea on one side and a lagoon on the other. It is indeed known as the only place in Hue where the locals have an accent similar to Quang region.
The late writer Ngo Minh, when he wrote “The Fairy Tale of My Loi Village”, recounted: The people of My Loi established their village in the 17th century, founded by pioneers originating from Thanh Hoa region, who were part of the army accompanying Lord Nguyen Hoang. The village has a natural area of 9km2, but boasts many renowned local products, such as: betel nuts from their gardens, wild yams from the hills, fabrics like raw silk, tussah silk, and silk gauze from sericulture; the craft of making conical hats; and seafaring; specialties like rabbitfish, grouper, black tiger prawns, green tiger prawns, croakers, and mullet fish, etc. are available.
Exploring My Loi market on a peaceful morning, Bao Chau, the photographer, observed: The locals here still have the habit of using conical hats to shield themselves from sun and rain, so My Loi conical hats are widely sold in the market to meet this need. The old ladies still have the habit of smoking homegrown tobacco, but their hands holding modern smartphones. Notably, the market has a separate food court with various unusual pastries, which I had never seen, sold elsewhere in my city, but the way they are eaten is very familiar to my childhood, which was eating with bamboo oars…
Hue Today Weekly would like to invite readers to visit My Loi village market through Bao Chau's photos.
