City leaders, representatives of departments and agencies, experts, researchers, and a large number of young readers attended and participated in the event.

Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day is an annual event aimed at honoring the value of books, fostering a love of reading, strengthening the foundation of knowledge, and moving toward the development of a learning society. In particular, in the current context, promoting digital transformation in the cultural sector, especially the digitization of documents and knowledge heritage, has become an urgent requirement.

Alongside various activities, the 2026 event also introduced two new publications under Hue Book Series. To date, the series has released 16 valuable publications, contributing to a rich and in-depth body of research materials with historical and academic significance. The two newly launched volumes are Collected Research on the Nguyen Dynasty (Volumes 1 and 2), with more than 2.700 pages and 165 selected studies compiled from the Research and Development Journal over more than 20 years (1991-2012).

On this occasion, more than 200 copies of books were donated to libraries, educational institutions, research centers, and localities to further expand knowledge within the community.

At the ceremony, Hue City also officially launched the 2026 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest and the Document Display Model Design Contest with the theme “Books and Hue Heritage”. These competitions serve as intellectual playgrounds and environments to nurture a passion for reading, inspire creativity, and foster a sense of responsibility among the younger generation in preserving and promoting cultural values.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang - Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee confirmed that the project “Establishing and Developing the Hue Book Series” is an initiative imbued with the locality’s distinctive cultural identity. Beyond promoting the image of Hue’s land and people through books, the series is gradually shaping into a cultural product with its own brand of the former imperial capital. It serves as a valuable source of materials for research and study, and as an important foundation for building Hue into a cultural and heritage city.
