Free breast and cervical cancer screening for 500 women

HNN.VN - This is a program deployed from December 19 to 21 at Hue Central Hospital – Base 2 (Phong An, Phong Dien, Thua Thien Hue), for 500 women over 35 in Phong Dien, Quang Dien district and Huong Tra town.

Screening of cancerous cells at Department of Pathology of Hue Central Hospital – Base 2

500 women participating in this program had breast examination, ultrasound screening for breast cancer; pap smear for cervical cancer and counseling on breast cancer prevention as well as received instructions in breast examination at home, etc. After the program, detected lesions will be given medical treatment. Others without disease will have follow-up examinations regularly.

Breast cancer is currently the most common cancer with the highest mortality rate among women. In Vietnam, this is one of the 10 most common cancers in women. Approximately 11,000 women with breast cancers are diagnosed each year and more than 4,500 have died of this disease. In 2010 there were 12,533 cases of breast cancer and it is estimated that by 2020 there will be 22,612 women having breast cancer.

7-year-old patient successfully receives bone marrow transplant, no longer dependent on blood transfusions

On the morning of March 25, Hue Central Hospital announced that it had held a discharge ceremony for a pediatric patient with thalassemia (a hereditary blood disorder) following a successful bone marrow transplant using marrow donated by the patient’s older sister. This is the 15th thalassemia bone marrow transplant performed at the hospital, marking an important step forward in the treatment of genetic hematologic diseases.
