Deputy Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dung works with Orbis International Organization in Vietnam

At the meeting, the Orbis International Organization in Vietnam introduced the program on eye care and supporting ophthalmic training in many countries all over the world. Accordingly, as a non-governmental organization, since 1982, Orbis has done many flying hospital programs in more than 89 countries around the world. The program aims to support training and transferring advanced ophthalmic technology for medical staff; as well as implementing programs on eye care, preventing blindness and restoring vision, bringing light for patients, especially children.

In Vietnam, Orbis has implemented 6 flying hospital program; in 2015, the program was implemented in Thua Thien Hue province with 134 patients being examined and 71 patients received ophthalmic treatment, in which over half of them was children; at the same time, it also supported ophthalmic training for nearly 150 doctors and nurses.

In 2019, Orbis will implement flying hospital program in Hue eye Hospital and Hue Central Hospital in the late August, the early September 2019. This is also one of the activities in the framework of the project “Developing eye care service for children in the northern provinces of the Central Vietnam” held by Orbis in collaboration with partners.

On behalf of provincial leaders, Deputy Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dung highly appreciated that Orbis organization has done many flying hospital programs in Vietnam, including Thua Thien Hue province. The results have shown that the program not only contributes to improving ophthalmic expertise for doctors and nurses in eye hospitals but also creates condition for the province to well done the work of blindness prevention and eye care for people, especially children with difficult circumstances in provincial area. Thua Thien Hue province will create the best favorable condition for Orbis to deploy the program in 2019 and hope that the program will give chances and bring light to many ophthalmic patients in the provincial area.

7-year-old patient successfully receives bone marrow transplant, no longer dependent on blood transfusions

On the morning of March 25, Hue Central Hospital announced that it had held a discharge ceremony for a pediatric patient with thalassemia (a hereditary blood disorder) following a successful bone marrow transplant using marrow donated by the patient’s older sister. This is the 15th thalassemia bone marrow transplant performed at the hospital, marking an important step forward in the treatment of genetic hematologic diseases.
