Blood donation Festival “White Blouse - Pink Heart” at Hue Central Hospital

HNN.VN - On the morning of July 11, Hue Central Hospital hosted the voluntary blood and platelet donation program titled “White Blouse - Pink Heart”, with the participation of 350 staff members and medical personnel currently working at the hospital. This annual event aims to help address the summer blood shortage while also promoting a spirit of compassion and solidarity within the medical community.

In reality, during the summer, blood reserves often drop significantly as students, the main force behind voluntary blood donation, are on break or busy with exams, while the demand for blood transfusions at hospitals remains high. According to the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center of Hue Central Hospital, at least 4,500 units of blood are needed each month to meet the demand for emergency and treatment purposes. However, in June 2025, the center received only around 2,700 units, and as of July 10, the number reached just 800 units.

The Trade Union and Youth Union of Hue Central Hospital in coordination with the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center launched the blood donation program under the direct guidance of the Hospital’s Party Committee and Board of Directors. Embracing the spirit of “each drop of blood donated – a life saved,” doctors and medical staff voluntarily contributed their efforts for the sake of patients.

Hue Central Hospital is one of only three special-class hospitals in the country standing out as a shining example in the voluntary blood donation movement. For two consecutive years (2023–2024), the hospital was awarded a Certificate of Merit by Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee for its outstanding achievements in blood donation efforts. Sharing this honor were the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center and three exemplary individuals, including one doctor who has donated blood 50 times, one technician with 40 donations, and one staff member actively involved in promoting blood donation.

At the city level, the Department of Blood Transfusion and 7 hospital staff members were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee, along with 22 other individuals recognized for their multiple blood donations.

The “White Blouse - Pink Heart” blood donation festival not only reflects the sense of responsibility and medical ethics of healthcare professionals but also serves as a powerful message of compassion and unity for the sake of community life.
