Suggesting to collect more artworks by the late artist Ton That Dao for Hue Museum of Fine Arts

HNN.VN - On October 11, representatives of the Hue Museum of Fine Arts’s leaders informed that after their meeting, the Art Collection Appraisal Council of the museum reached a consensus to suggest the Provincial People’s Committee to collect 4 artworks in 2024.

The Art Collection Appraisal Council is discussing to assess the artworks 

Accordingly, these 4 artworks are highly appreciated by the Council for their historical, cultural, and artistic values. Furthermore, these artworks also feature typical styles of the artists and sculptors, aligning with the collection standards, meeting the work of research and exhibition of Hue Museum of Fine Arts.

Specifically, the work “Garden scene” (silk, created in 1995 by artist Ton That Dao), the work “Hung King establishes the nation” (oil paintings, created in 1990 by artist Vinh Phoi), the work “The Engagement Ceremony of K’Tu people” (wood, created in 2022 by sculptor Molokai), and the work “Portrait” (oil paintings, created in 2020 by artist Vu Duy Tam).

Among the artworks listed in the suggestions, notably, there is the artwork “Garden Scene” painted by artist Ton That Dao (1910 – 1979). This artist graduated from Indochina School of Fine Arts, and he was the first rector of the Hue College of Fine Arts. His paintings are quite rare on the market.

Several years previously, the museum also succeeded in collecting a silk artwork titled “The young girl by lotus flowers” (50X70cm) painted by this talented artist.

Up to now, Hue Museum of Fine Arts has successfully collected 68 artworks by the state budget. Among these, notable works include those by well-known artists such as Ton That Sa, Ton That Van, Buu Chi, Mai Trung Thu, Hoang Dang Nhuan, Truong Be, Do Ky Hoang, Vinh Phoi, Dinh Cuong, Phan Xuan Sanh, and Vo Xuan Huy, etc.

According to the leaders of Hue Museum of Fine Arts, many criteria were considered when selecting works for the collection, including the artworks of exceptional artistic values by renowned artists in domestic and international markets; the works showing typical artistic values and distinctive style of Hue artists; or who live, study, and work in Hue; contemporary and traditional artworks strongly reflecting the cultural identity of Hue, as well as that of localities, and Vietnamese ethnic groups, and the artworks showcasing the cultural quintessence of humanity; the artworks with excellent contents, ideas, and artistic merit, demonstrating profound humanistic values, high artistic values. The criteria also mentioned the artworks with topicality, showcasing creativity, and artistic exploration with both ethnic and modern characteristics, and works reflecting achievements in the construction and protection of the homeland, etc.
