In the framework of the talk, leaders of both sides assessed the results of their collaboration in border management and protection from September 2024 up to now. Accordingly, the two sides have jointly conducted campaigns to raise awareness for residents in the border areas to strengthen the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos. At the same time, they have also educated residents on border and checkpoint laws, reminded them to strictly implement 2 legal documents signed by the governments of the two countries in 2026 concerning the Vietnam-Laos land border.

The Border Guard Commands of Hue City and Quang Tri Province, together with Salavan Provincial Military Command, have carried out border management and protection activities in accordance with the Agreement on the Regulations on Border Management and Land Border Gates between Vietnam and Laos. From September 2025 to the present, the two sides have directed and organized one joint provincial-level patrol involving 24 officers and soldiers, and 33 joint patrols at the border post-company level with 783 officers and soldiers participating. Through these patrols and inspections, no violations of border regulations have been detected, and the border markers and demarcation signs of both countries have been safely maintained and protected.

The two sides have directed their units to effectively implement the regulations and agreements on twinning relationships between the Border Guard Posts under the Border Guard Commands of Hue City and Quang Tri Province, and the Border Defense Companies 511 and 514, under Salavan Provincial Military Command. Notably, on August 26, 2025, Hong Van Border Gate Post (Hue City Border Guard Command) established a twinning relationship with Border Defense Company 514. At the same time, both sides have advised local Party committees and authorities at all levels to maintain and effectively implement the twinning model between residential clusters along both sides of the border, contributing to strengthening and fostering the Vietnam-Laos solidarity and friendship…

Hue’s elevation to a centrally-governed municipality from early 2025 has taken place in a special context: the country is undergoing a major administrative restructuring, reducing the number of provinces and cities from 63 to 34. While 52 other localities are expanding through mergers, Hue has chosen a different path - no consolidation, no expansion by aggregation, but an upgrade built on its existing identity and structural foundation.
