Vietnam is the top favorite destination for Australians

HNN.VN - According to VNA (Vietnam News Agency) reporters in Sydney, Australia’s Sky News recently published an article stating that when Australian travelers seek “meaningful cultural adventures”, Vietnam tops their list, as tourism in this Southeast Asian country offers high quality at a lower cost compared to any other popular destination.

According to the Sky news agency, Vietnam is regarded as a vibrant, lively country rich in cultural identity. The latest data this year from Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) shows that the number of Australian tourists visiting Vietnam has far surpassed all other popular international destinations, increasing by 54% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2019.

Ms. Nicole Newport, Regional Sales Director for Oceania at InsideAsia Tours, stated that there is “clear evidence” showing Vietnam is rapidly becoming a popular travel destination, and this trend is expected to continue in the foreseeable future.

Ms. Nicole Newport said that Vietnam’s close proximity to Australia and its rich range of experiences, from historic cities and bustling markets to stunning natural landscapes, make a visit feel as though one is exploring multiple countries in a single trip. In addition, Ms. Newport noted that more than ever, travelers are seeking meaningful cultural journeys that go beyond the usual tourist routes.

According to Travel Money Oz, another factor that makes Vietnam an attractive destination for Australian travelers is the exchange rate between the Australian dollar (AUD) and the Vietnamese currency. A spokesperson for Travel Money Oz stated that Vietnam consistently offers incredible value for Australian tourists. With the AUD steadily gaining value against the Vietnamese currency in recent months, travelers can enjoy even greater benefits. This directly impacts travelers’ budgets, with an average meal or a taxi ride cost only about 5 AUD, and a one-liter bottle of purified water costs around 80 cents.

Klook Travel company also reported a surge of up to 250% in hotel bookings in Vietnam from March to June 2025 compared to the same period last year. The most searched destinations in Vietnam include Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Ha Long Bay, and Hoi An.
