Previously, on July 11, Mr. N. was admitted to the Emergency Department, Hue Central Hospital due to a traffic accident. At this time, the patient was in a coma, brain CT Scan showed epidural hematoma at the left hemisphere of the brain.

Patient N. was indicated to have emergency surgery by opening the left skull to release cerebral compression, removing the whole hematoma causing compression and removing the necrotic brain tissue causing bleeding; at the same time, they stop the bleeding inside the skull.

Patient N is getting better at the Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care - A.

After the surgery, the patient was transferred to the Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care - A, Hue Central Hospital to be monitored and received the first autologous stem cell transplant from the bone marrow after about 2 hours of surgery. At this time, the patient was intensively monitored with ventilators, sedative, anti-edema drugs, intensive resuscitation, nutrition, blood transfusion ...

After 10 days of surgery, the patient continued to receive a second stem cell transplant. Currently, patient N. fully regained consciousness, GCS has increased by more than 10 points, as he began to recognize relatives and feeding himself, doing personal hygiene with the help of his family members.

According to the chief of Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care - A, this is 1/17 case of severe TCI, prognosis of death but saved by early surgical intervention and intensive resuscitation with the use of autologous stem cells transplant - a new solution in the state-level scientific research project "Using autologous stem cells in emergency treatment for patients with severe TCI" carried out by Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Quang, that has been implemented in the period from 2018 to 2020 in Hue Central Hospital.
