Hue Central Hospital is the first Western medicine hospital in Vietnam, established in 1894 under the decree of Emperor Thanh Thai. After 130 years of construction and development, the hospital currently has 9 People's Physicians, 143 Meritorious Physicians; nearly 200 Professors, Associate Professors, Doctors Specialists level II, over 1,500 other University graduate and post-graduate staff. With 15 centers, 109 clinical and paraclinical departments... every year, there are more than 800 thousand patients examined, 180 thousand inpatients, and up to 51,000 surgeries.
In recent years, the hospital has made many breakthroughs in high-tech, specialized treatments: Nearly 2,000 organ transplants have been successfully performed; autologous bone marrow transplants; maintenance of 3D endoscopic surgery, single-hole endoscopy and natural orifice endoscopy; microsurgery techniques, cosmetic surgery; assisted reproduction - surrogacy; coronary angiography and intervention, stroke intervention; multimodal, multidisciplinary cancer treatment.
With its achievements, the unit has received many prestigious awards, and has been honored by the Party and State with the title of The Hero of Labor in the Renovation period, the First Class Independence Medal (2nd time). In 2024, the hospital will be one of ten units honored in the program "Glory of Vietnam".
In the future, the hospital sets the goal of being "Determined to build Hue Central Hospital into a high-class medical center, a center for training high-quality medical human resources, towards meeting the standards of hospitals in Southeast Asia and internationally", making the unit one of 6 public hospitals in Vietnam on par with international standards according to the health network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Government.

On this occasion, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan attended the inauguration of the new generation DSA vascular imaging and intervention system; visited and presented gifts to the cross-Vietnam heart transplant patient being treated at the hospital.
At the ceremony, Hue Central Hospital received a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for its outstanding achievements in successfully performing the first allogeneic bone marrow transplant on a patient with thalassemia.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, on behalf of the Government, awarded the First Class Labor Medal to Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of the Hospital; and the Third Class Labor Medal to the Department of Pediatric Surgery - Abdominal Emergency, and the Department of Nephrology and Urology.
