Gia Hoi old quarter needs to find its uniqueness to move forward

TTH.VN - Gia Hoi old quarter, located to the east outside the Citadel, was once the most bustling area in Hue Imperial Capital in the early 19th century. Today, this town, part of Gia Hoi ward (Phu Xuan district), is facing urbanization and the challenge of balancing between preservation and development. So, how will Gia Hoi develop and progress?

This is the concern that many experts and researchers have raised at a seminar themed “Gia Hoi old quarter - Developing from its uniqueness”, organized by Huong River Museum of Ancient Pottery on January 7 at the Lan Vien Co Tich 2 space (94 - 96 - 98 Bach Dang street, Phu Xuan district).

“Dong Ba - Gia Hoi, two bridges / Looking towards Dieu De, four floors, two bells”, many people have quoted these iconic images of prosperity to describe the Gia Hoi old quarter of the past. However, in the present, the old quarter, located in the heart of Hue's urban center, seems quiet and is considered “less developed” despite being evaluated as a potential area with many cultural and historical advantages.

Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, suggested that to break the deadlock for Gia Hoi old quarter, the authority needs to pay special attention to implementing detailed planning for this area. Furthermore, it is necessary to invest appropriately in preserving, exploiting, and promoting the values of the rich heritage in the area. In addition, local people also need to change and make efforts in accessing and using the heritage... Some other opinions also mentioned the advantage of exploiting tourism by both road and river at the famous landmarks of Gia Hoi.
