Marking the 101st anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - 2026), this issue of Hue Today Weekly devotes significant space to a series of articles exploring the journalism profession and the quiet dedication of reporters behind the news.
Among the standout features is “The More Powerful Technology Becomes, the Greater Journalists’ Responsibility”. This article was developed by Lien Minh, a reporter, after her conversation with Dr. Luong Dong Son from the Institute of Journalism and Communication, Academy of Journalism and Communication. Their discussion examined the challenges and opportunities facing journalism in the AI era, as well as the enduring values that should be upheld in an increasingly technology-driven world.
In recent years, technology has dramatically reshaped the way information is produced and consumed. Drawing on his experience in journalism research and education, Dr. Luong Dong Son said the most profound change lies not only in reporting tools themselves, but in the transformation of the entire information ecosystem as well. According to Dr. Son, this shift requires journalists to adapt in three key areas: speed, forms of expression, and engagement with the public. The public is no longer a passive receiver of information; they now respond, comment, share content, and actively contribute to the fact-checking pressure placed on news organizations. Therefore, journalists must preserve the profession’s core values while adapting to new technologies, platforms, and changing reader behaviors.
In the article ‘Braving Danger to Keep the Truth Flowing’, Quyen Vinh shed light on the work of journalists who regularly find themselves on the front lines of disasters or immersed in months-long investigations. Despite the different assignments, they share the same mission: To be where the challenges are greatest. Behind every news report and every article is a commitment to truth, a sense of responsibility to the community, and a dedication to reflecting life as it is.

This section features articles recounting the experiences of the reporter Vi Van Thao from Dan Tri Newspaper as he searched for stories of people affected by severe flooding, and the experience of Nguyen Quang Tam of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, who investigated a private clinic widely praised through word of mouth for its supposedly “quick cures”. Despite claims that even severe ailments could be treated quickly, many patients later reported recurring symptoms, with some saying their conditions had worsened.
The investigative series titled “Rapid Consultations, Instant Cures” was published in November 2025. Follow-up inspections revealed violations at several clinics related to their professional scope of practice and health examination procedures, leading to regulatory action. According to Quang Tam, the true value of investigative journalism is measured not by the attention it attracts or the short-lived reactions it creates, but by its ability to drive meaningful change. By bringing real-world shortcomings to light, such reporting can support stronger oversight, improve professional standards, and safeguard patients’ rights.
