Through persistent effort and admirable academic spirit, the students brought home the championship title along with a series of outstanding individual achievements, further affirming the institution’s position as one of the nation’s leading centers for medical education.
Nguyen Van Khanh (student of Y20A), a member of the YDH1 Team from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, shared that after being selected for the official competition team, the group immediately began studying the rules in detail, reviewing key knowledge areas, and gathering relevant materials. This was a simple yet essential first step to shaping a well-structured preparation process.
“Our class schedule and clinical rotations are packed, so the time we have for reviewing biochemistry has been significantly reduced,” Khanh shared. Evenings have become the group’s most precious time. After finishing classes at school and exhausting clinical shifts, they gathered together, opened their books, discussed difficult topics, worked through question sets, and filled in the gaps in their knowledge.
Not yet adapted to the intense study pace, the team faced an unexpected challenge: Two consecutive floods swept through Hue in two weeks before the exam. Rising water and disrupted roads limited movement, completely overturning their study plans. Group study sessions had to be suspended, and materials could not be delivered to members on time. “We were really anxious because that period was the final stretch, but luckily the Biochemistry Department and the Youth Union supported us very promptly,” Khanh recalled. The department provided additional suitable materials and guided them on key areas to focus on, while the Youth Union helped with coordination, creating conditions for the students to maintain their morale and promptly adjust their study schedules to fit the practical situation.
This year’s competition was hosted by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thai Nguyen University. It is an annual event organized for students from medical and pharmaceutical universities nationwide and internationally. This year’s competition was larger in scale than previous editions, attracting 40 teams with 120 contestants from 21 domestic universities, along with the participation of one team from Thailand. During the three-day competition from November 7 to 9, contestants had to go through three rounds, preliminary, semifinal, and final, with content focused on in-depth knowledge of medical biochemistry, a core scientific discipline in training high-quality healthcare professionals.
Amid the lively and high-pressure competitive atmosphere, YDH1 team from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, comprising Nguyen Van Khanh (Y20A), Truong Van Quoc Dat (Y22B), and Le Thi Khanh May (Y22B), excelled in demonstrating their professional competence and confidence, rivaling even the strongest teams. Not only did they master the knowledge, but they also impressed others with their sharp critical thinking, accurate situational analysis, and clear, engaging presentation skills. All of this helped team YDH1 claim the championship, bringing home the competition’s highest title.
Not only did team YDH1 shine, but also team YDH2, including Vo Huy Hoang (Y22B), Hoang Minh Nhan (Y22B), and Khong Duc Tai (Y23C), also competed with great effort and determination. They surpassed many strong teams to reach the semifinal round, placing in the top 6 nationwide, an achievement truly worthy of recognition and one that contributed to the overall success of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy at this prestigious academic competition.
In the individual category, the university’s students continued to make their mark with outstanding achievements. Specifically, Nguyen Van Khanh (Y20A), Truong Van Quoc Dat (Y22B), and Vo Huy Hoang (Y22B) won the Golden Medals; while Hoang Minh Nhan (Y22B), Khong Duc Tai (Y23C) won the Silver Medals; and Le Thi Khanh May (Y22B) won the Bronze Medal.
The success of the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy team at the 2025 International Medical Biochemistry Competition is not only a source of joy for the participants but also a shared pride of the entire university. The results once again affirm the soundness of the university’s training strategy, the dedication of its faculty, and the relentless learning spirit of its students. At the same time, this achievement strongly inspires a love for scientific research and sparks academic passion among the new generation of young medical students.
