At the event, delegates reviewed the 80-year journey of building and developing Vietnam’s revolutionary physical training and sports sector since President Ho Chi Minh signed the decree establishing the Central Department of Physical Training and Sports on March 27th, 1946 - an important milestone that laid the foundation for the formation and growth of the national sports sector.

Through different historical periods, Vietnam’s sports sector has continuously grown, contributing to improving public health, fostering patriotism, and achieving numerous outstanding accomplishments in regional and international arenas.

For Hue City, in recent years, thanks to the leadership of the City Party Committee, the People’s Council, and the People’s Committee, along with the unity and joint efforts of all sectors and localities, both mass sports movements and high-performance sports have seen many positive developments.

Sports activities have been organized regularly and diversely, taking place continuously and widely, attracting tens of thousands of participants. These include the Olympic Run for Public Health and the City Cross-country Tournament, boat racing competitions, VnExpress Marathon, Hue Sports Festival, among others. Hue has also frequently been selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Public Security to host national and international sporting events, leaving strong impressions on coaches, athletes, and visitors.

Alongside the widespread development of mass sports, training and development in high-performance sports have also made notable progress. Over the years, many Hue athletes have made their mark at national, regional, continental, and global competitions.

Notable examples include: three siblings My Hanh, My Trang, and My Linh (wrestling); Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh and Le Van Dong (shuttlecock kicking); Nguyen Thi Hoai Thuong (jujitsu); Tran Viet Duy Quan (karate); and Thanh Nhi (archery). In addition, at the 9th National Sports Games in 2022, Hue athletes won an impressive total of 39 medals (11 gold, 13 silver, and 15 bronze), breaking two event records and rising significantly to 21st place out of 65 participating provinces, cities, and sectors.

Recognizing and commending the contributions of the sports sector, Standing Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that in the coming period, the city’s sports sector should further promote the socialization of sports activities; continue to innovate and develop mass sports in tandem with improving the quality of high-performance sports; and contribute actively to building well-rounded Hue citizens physically healthy, strong in will, and exemplary in character. This is seen as the most practical way to realize President Ho Chi Minh’s vision of building a strong, vigorous, and dynamic Vietnamese.

On this occasion, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national teams, many coaches and athletes from Hue were honored with prestigious state awards.

Specifically, coaches such as  Nguyen Van Hien (shuttlecock kicking) was awarded the First-Class Labor Order; Chu Minh Tuan (Jujitsu), the Second-Class Labor Order; and Dinh Van Kien (wrestling), the Third-Class Labor Order; and Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh, athlete, (shuttlecock kicking) was awarded the First-Class Labor Order.
