The conference drew participation from representatives of the Ministry of Health, provincial health departments, medical and pharmaceutical universities, domestic and international experts, and more than 200 delegates from commune and ward health stations, hospitals, and regional medical centers in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Medical Education Association, emphasized that developing primary healthcare today is not only a professional requirement of the healthcare sector but also an important foundation for effectively implementing universal health management policies in the new period.
According to Professor Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, the current focus is not only on strengthening infrastructure and equipment but also on improving the operational capacity of the system, from human resource training, standardization of practice quality, and data governance to strengthening interdisciplinary coordination and integrated care organization across healthcare levels in order to better meet the increasing healthcare demands of the public.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Anh Son, Head of the Training Management Division, the Department of Science, Technology and Training of the Ministry of Health, updated participants on key orientations for implementing periodic health check-ups, universal health management, and strengthening grassroots healthcare during the 2026-2035 period. The report emphasized the need to develop human resources for commune, ward, and special zone health stations; prioritize training family medicine specialists; and expand hands-on training programs at grassroots facilities to meet the requirements for continuous care, chronic disease management, and adaptation to population aging trends in the community.
As part of the conference, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University continued implementing a capacity-building support program for local health stations and family doctor clinics in the Central and Central Highlands regions in managing hypertension and chronic lung diseases. The program includes support for blood pressure monitoring devices and spirometers, while also providing training and certification in spirometry measurement and result analysis techniques for grassroots healthcare staff to enhance early detection and management of cardiovascular and chronic pulmonary diseases in the community.
This activity continues the grassroots healthcare capacity enhancement program implemented by the Family Medicine Clinic of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University during the 2023-2025 period. Under the program, nearly 2,000 blood pressure monitors, along with home blood pressure monitoring applications, have been provided to local health stations and residents in various localities.
In 2026, around 600 commune and ward health stations across nine provinces in the Central and Central Highlands regions will continue receiving equipment support to strengthen non-communicable disease management capacity at the primary healthcare level.
