Accompanying the Deputy Prime Minister were Mr. Hoang Cong Thuy, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Nguyen Hai Trung, Deputy Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs; and leaders of central ministries, departments, and agencies. Representing local authorities were Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of Hue City Party Committee and Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Chi Tai, Deputy Secretary of Hue City Party Committee and Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City; together with leaders of relevant agencies and departments.
Vesak 2570 is being celebrated in an atmosphere of enthusiasm following the country’s successful organization of several major political events. It is also a period during which the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha is implementing a number of significant activities, including Buddhist congresses at various levels for the 2026-2031 term, preparations for the 10th National Buddhist Congress, and activities marking the 45th anniversary of the Sangha’s establishment (1981 - 2026). Notably, the international standing and prestige of Vietnamese Buddhism continue to grow, demonstrated by Vietnam’s active participation in coordinating the organization of the 2026 Vesak celebration in Pakistan.
On behalf of the Party, the State, the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang respectfully conveyed his warm greetings, sincere sentiments, and best wishes to senior Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, lay Buddhists, and Buddhist followers for a peaceful, united, and spiritually fulfilling Vesak season.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is entering a new era of development marked by both opportunities and challenges. Under the Party’s leadership and the Government’s decisive administration, the country continues to achieve major accomplishments across various sectors. Socio-economic development remains stable; national defence and security are maintained; social welfare is guaranteed; people’s living standards continue to improve; and the nation’s international standing is steadily rising.

The Deputy Prime Minister commended and highly appreciated the important contributions of the Sangha and Buddhist followers to the nation’s overall achievements. With the spirit of “protecting the nation and serving the people” and “Buddhism accompanying the nation”, the Buddhist community in Hue has consistently played a positive role in strengthening social ethics and reinforcing the great national unity bloc.
In particular, the Sangha has demonstrated a strong spirit of social engagement through humanitarian activities, selfless dedication, compassion, charitable work, and disaster relief efforts. It has also actively participated in building new-style rural areas, promoting civilized urban development, and contributing to sustainable poverty reduction. These practical contributions, benefiting both religion and society, have helped the whole Party, armed forces, and people in building an increasingly prosperous and happy nation.
Regarding future tasks, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Party and the State remain steadfast in respecting and guaranteeing citizens’ rights to freedom of belief and religion, while creating favorable conditions for religious organizations to operate in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
He expressed confidence that the Hue City Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha would successfully organize Buddhist congresses at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term, while continuing to guide monks, nuns, and followers in promoting the Sangha’s fine traditions and implementing the principle of “Dharma - Nation - Socialism”, as well as actively participating in cultural heritage preservation and environmental protection.
Expressing sincere gratitude for the attention and support of Party, State, and Government leaders, Most Venerable Thich Khe Chon, Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Head of the Hue City Executive Board, affirmed that monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers would continue to uphold the traditions of harmony and solidarity, maintain close ties with the nation, and work together with local authorities and residents to build an increasingly civilized, prosperous, and happy Hue.

As part of the working visit, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang and the delegation also visited Most Venerable Thich Giac Quang, Vice Supreme Patriarch of the Sangha’s Council of Certification, at Bao Lam Pagoda, and paid a visit to Tuong Van Patriarchal Pagoda. At each location, the Deputy Prime Minister warmly inquired about the health and well-being of the Buddhist dignitaries and expressed appreciation for their prestige and long-standing contributions in guiding monks, nuns, and followers to implement the Party’s guidelines and the State’s laws and policies.
During his visit to Tuong Van Patriarchal Pagoda, an ancient temple with profound influence on Buddhism in Hue, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope that the pagoda would continue making significant contributions in the fields of culture, education, ethics, and spirituality, thereby helping strengthen the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

During the meetings, Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Nguyen Khac Toan briefed the Buddhist dignitaries on encouraging socio-economic developments in the locality. He emphasized the city leadership’s political determination to achieve breakthrough growth and promote double-digit economic expansion in the coming years. He also expressed hope that Buddhist leaders would continue leveraging their influence to foster public consensus, guide monks, nuns, and followers in participating actively in patriotic movements, and contribute to Hue’s overall stability and development.
In response, the senior Buddhist leaders expressed sincere appreciation for the attention shown by the Deputy Prime Minister and local leaders. They also voiced confidence and optimism regarding the city’s ambitious development goals and affirmed their commitment to contributing to national unity and accompanying Hue on its path of continued progress.
