HNN.VN - On the morning of September 17th, Hue Central Hospital (HCH) and Vietnam Association of Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery jointly organized the 2026 National Scientific Conference on Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery (VASEL 2026), themed ‘Technological Innovation - Integrating AI to Advance Laparoscopic Surgery’.

The conference was attended by Ms. Pham Thi Minh Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Health; Mr. Nguyen Chi Tai, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City; Prof. Dr. Tran Binh Giang, Chairman of Vietnam Association of Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery; representatives from the Ministry of Health; medical experts and scientists; and around 700 delegates from Vietnam and abroad.

Held over two days, September 16th and 17th, the conference was themed ‘Technological Innovation - Integrating AI to Advance Laparoscopic Surgery’. It served as a professional forum for sharing experience, updating participants on the latest advances in modern surgery, and promoting the application of advanced technologies in clinical practice.

More than 260 presentations were selected for delivery at the conference, with the participation of surgeons, doctors, residents, postgraduate trainees and specialist nurses from hospitals specializing in surgery, obstetrics, oncology and pediatrics, as well as public and private general hospitals. Experts from Japan, China, India, Taiwan and several other countries and territories with advanced healthcare systems also took part to share their expertise and experience.

The presentations were delivered across nine conference halls and one video session, covering a wide range of fields in surgery and laparoscopic surgery. Notable topics included the use of robotic surgery in the treatment of gastrointestinal, urological, obstetric and gynaecological, and lung and mediastinal conditions; the application of artificial intelligence to support clinical decision-making, medical literature analysis and surgical navigation; and 3D modeling and printing techniques for surgical planning in cases involving tumors in complex anatomical locations.

As part of the event, Hue Central Hospital, in coordination with the Executive Committee of the Asian Society of Endoscopic Surgery, organized the Asia-Pacific Endoscopic Surgery Conference, held for the first time in Hue City. Several cooperation agreements were also signed between Vietnam Association of Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery, Hue Central Hospital, and Viet Duc Hospital and the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Asian Center for Endoscopic and Robotic Surgery Training.

VASEL 2026 aims to strengthen academic exchange, facilitate access to advanced techniques, and promote the application of artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital technologies in surgery and laparoscopic surgery. Through these efforts, the conference contributes to updating professional expertise and advancing the quality of treatment for patients.
