The surgery was performed by a team of doctors from the Cardiovascular Center, Department of General Surgery, at Da Nang C Hospital, in collaboration with experts from Hue Central Hospital, led by Professor Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, who provided direct support and technical guidance.
The first patient to undergo the procedure was Mr. V.S. (83 years old, a resident of Da Nang City), who has coronary artery disease and hypertension. According to an update as of 8 a.m. on October 17, the patient was conscious and had good cardiac function after the surgery. He was extubated, taken off the ventilator, and was breathing independently.
To successfully implement this technique, Da Nang C Hospital has sent 21 healthcare staff, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and technicians, to Hue Central Hospital for specialized training and hands-on practice since mid-2022.
In September and early October 2026, the team continued to update their knowledge, hone their skills, and strengthen interdisciplinary coordination in preparation for the first operation.
In the coming time, the two hospitals aim to further improve the quality of treatment and gradually establish routine open-heart surgery services at Da Nang C Hospital. This will give residents greater access to high-quality medical services in their local area, helping improve the effectiveness of healthcare and health protection for the People.
