In order to minimize damage caused by natural disasters, in recent days, Quang Dien District People’s Committee has directed localities to urgently mobilize manpower and resources to drain water from the flooded fields.

Accordingly, the district has drained water from more than 751 hectares of rice and vegetable crops, bringing the total area that is no longer submerged to 1,563 hectares. Currently, over 2,377 hectares of rice and vegetables remain flooded, and 1,027 hectares of rice are facing the risk of being replanted.

In addition to intensifying drainage efforts in rice-growing areas, the local authorities of Quang Tho, Quang An, Quang Vinh, Quang Phu, Quang Thai, and Quang Loi communes are currently encouraging residents to take advantage of the sunny days to urgently head to the fields and harvest their crops.

Mr. Hoang Van Dung, a resident of Ha Cang Hamlet, Quang Phu Commune said: “Some of our peanut crops haven’t reached harvest time yet, but due to the flooding, our whole family has been going out to the fields these days to harvest whatever we can, just to salvage as much as possible”.

Currently, 200 hectares of peanuts in Quang Phu Commune are submerged, and local authorities continue to encourage and mobilize residents to harvest their crops. For the remaining 70 hectares of immature peanuts, Quang Phu Commune People’s Committee has instructed agricultural cooperatives to reinforce dikes and enhance drainage efforts to ensure the crops are not adversely affected.

The unusual rain and flood from June 11 to 13 caused significant damage to agricultural and aquacultural production in Quang Dien District. Across the district, more than 3,734 hectares of rice, 647 hectares of vegetables and legumes, and 654 hectares of aquaculture were submerged.
