Opening of activities celebrating Vietnam Heritage Day at Co Mat Vien

HNN.VN - On the morning of November 21st, at the Nguyen Dynasty’s Privy Council, or Co Mat Vien (Tam Toa), Hue Monuments Conservation Center, in collaboration with the University of Arts - Hue University, held the opening of a series of exhibitions and displays in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23rd).

Attending the event were Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee – Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, along with representatives of departments and sectors, many researchers, experts, and a large number of art enthusiasts.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Hoang Viet Trung - Director of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, affirmed that cultural heritage is not only memory and identity, but also a “living textbook” that nurtures the thinking and character of younger generations. He noted that since 2008, heritage education in Hue has been implemented in an increasingly methodical manner, especially after the Department of Education and Training signed a cooperation agreement with the Center. The heritage education program has now reached 163 schools, helping cultivate a sense of “Hue people with identity” and a consciousness of preserving traditional values.

A highlight of the event is the documentary photo exhibition “The Nguyen Dynasty’s Co Mat Vien (1834-1945): Spatial Journey and Imprints of Governance”. Right within the very space that once served as the Nguyen Dynasty’s supreme advisory body, associated with many significant decisions, visitors can access architectural documents, cultural materials, and historical narratives rich in depth.

Alongside this is the heritage education program “Exploring Co Mat Vien and Experiencing Hue Heritage Forms”, which attracted many students. They were able to directly explore the royal space and participate in hands-on activities, helping them better understand the values of heritage and the importance of preservation.

Another highlight is the exhibition “Donated Artifacts”, featuring more than 50 notable artifacts among roughly 500 items donated by organizations and individuals both inside and outside the country to the museum system since 1995. The event also serves as an opportunity to honor those who have contributed to the repatriation and preservation of Hue antiques.

Concurrently, the “Net Hue 3” (“The essence of Hue 3”) fine arts exhibition presents 40 works by lecturers, painters, and students of the University of Arts - Hue University, portraying the beauty of Hue’s culture, landscapes, and people through an expressive artistic language.

With its diverse activities, this year’s Vietnam Cultural Heritage Week continues to spread the value of the imperial heritage to the community, creating a space for exchange among heritage conservators, artists, and collectors - affirming Hue’s position as a distinctive cultural center of the country.

The exhibition takes place at Co Mat Vien (33 Tong Duy Tan, Phu Xuan Ward) from November 21st to 27th.
