Intensive dissemination on RCEP Agreement to businesses

TTH.VN - On the morning of July 28, the Department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Da Nang Branch (VCCI) held an intensive seminar on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) for import and export businesses, as well as state management agencies in the provincial area.

The seminar aimed at concretizing the Provincial People’s Committee’s digitalization plan, thereby, supporting the state management agencies and import, export business community to seize and make the most exploitation of the opportunities brought by the RCEP Agreement.

The intensive contents the RCEP Agreement, which were disseminated, included trade in goods, cod of conducts, customs, trade facilitation, measures to ensure food hygiene, intellectual property, etc.

At the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Dien – Former Deputy Director of VCCI had the detail presentation on RCEP such as what RCEP is, RCEP’s basic commitments; the differences between RCEP and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP); EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement; as well as the opportunities, challenges of Vietnam when participating in the RCEP.

RCEP Agreement is a free trade agreement signed by 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and 5 partner countries of ASEAN including Japan, Korea, China, Australia and New Zealand.

The negotiation process of RCEP officially started from 2012, up to November 15, 2020, 15 member countries have signed the RCEP. In Vietnam, RCEP Agreement entered into force since January 1, 2022.

“Although RCEP has entered into force for nearly 7 months, up to now, many businesses in the provincial area have not gotten the full contents on commitments offered by the RCEP Agreement to apply to their work of operation. Therefore, after this seminar, import and export agencies and businesses will somewhat be clearer to implement, at the same time, taking advantages of the opportunities when implementing the RCEP Agreement", said Mrs. Tran Thi Hoa, Head of the Management, Trade, and Export – Import Division (of the Department of Industries and Commerce).
