On August 8, the Coordinating Office of the National New-style Rural Building Programme in Hue City, in collaboration with the “Hue - A City to Reduce Plastics in Central Vietnam” project, organized a workshop to evaluate the results of implementing environmental criteria in building new rural areas.

The workshop was attended by more than 100 delegates, including representatives from the Central Coordinating Office, the Coordinating Offices in Quang Tri Province and Da Nang City, experts, scientists, and representatives from 24 communes and wards in the area.

The workshop focused on a comprehensive evaluation of the implementation of environmental criteria in the 2021 - 2025 period, particularly criteria 17.6 - the rate of solid waste collection and treatment, 17.7 - the rate of households with access to clean water, 17.11 - the bright-green-clean-beautiful environmental landscape, and 17.12 - natural disaster and climate change prevention. These are fundamental criteria for building new rural areas that is modern, sustainable, adaptable to climate change, and protects the living environment for rural residents.

At the workshop, the “Hue - A City to Reduce Plastics in Central Vietnam” project shared many practical models for reducing plastic waste in residential areas, schools, and communities, while also supporting local authorities in effectively implementing environmental criteria within the new-style rural building programme.

In addition to the general and specialized reports, the workshop also dedicated significant time to discussions and presentations from representatives of communes, wards, experts, and related businesses. The discussions focused on existing issues in implementing environmental criteria, solutions to improve the quality of rural environmental infrastructure, as well as community initiatives and inter-sectoral coordination.

The workshop was also an opportunity to review the results of the 2021 - 2025 period, and to discuss and propose directions and solutions for implementing environmental criteria in the next period. The goal is to ensure they are suitable for local realities, promote the role of the community, and strengthen links between agencies and organizations. This was not only an opportunity to summarize and review the implementation of environmental criteria in building new rural areas, but also a chance to contribute to promoting initiatives for sustainable development, reducing plastic waste pollution, and improving the quality of life for residents.

The National New-style Rural Building Programme in the 2021 - 2025 period in the city has achieved remarkable progress. This is exemplified by the number of communes in the (former) Quang Dien District that met new rural standards, with 11 model villages (accounting for 65% of the entire city), which created a strong movement in the new rural building campaign. Rural infrastructure has been invested in a synchronized manner, meeting the needs of the population. Poverty reduction and the elimination of temporary housing have achieved remarkable results, especially in the (former) A Luoi and Nam Dong districts (now Phu Loc).
