Launching the project on "Building Hue City of culture and smart tourism"

The launching ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong; Secretary of Hue City Party Committee, Mr. Phan Thien Dinh; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh; Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, Mr. Vo Le Nhat; as well as leaders of Hue City, departments and branches. From the Republic of Korea (RoK), Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Da Nang, Mr. Ahn Min Sik; Country Director of the KOICA in Vietnam, Mr. Cho Han Deog; and Project Manager, General Director of OCS, Mr. Cho Kyung Hoon attended the event.

The project on "Building Hue City of culture and smart tourism", which is funded by the Republic of Korea Government, is a program aiming to concretize the project on adjusting the general planning of Hue City, the project on detailed planning of the both banks of the Huong River, and the pilot project, which are funded by the Republic of Korea Government for Hue City from 2011 to the present.

The project is implemented with the goals of building a tourism development project in Hue City and building a smart tourism information system; developing an urban cultural tourism center and expanding urban walking zones in Hue City; installing smart lighting and surveillance camera systems along the both banks of the Huong River; as well as building public administration capacity in tourism development and urban management.

The project includes five components, including establishing a smart cultural tourism hub in Hue City; a pilot project of the smart cultural tourism hub, which is the Da Vien islet cultural complex; smart lighting and surveillance camera systems along the both banks of the Huong River; building public administration capacity in tourism development, as well as urban management and project management.

In a speech at the event, Mr. Ahn Min Sik, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Da Nang emphasized that over the past time, Hue City had implemented numerous important projects in cooperation with the KOICA, namely the project on adjusting the general planning of Hue City, the project on planning the both banks of the Huong River; and, the city was gradually developing around the Huong River, so as to become a well-known tourism destination; at the same time, aiming towards the goal of turning itself into a centrally-managed municipality by 2025.

The project on "Building Hue city of culture and smart tourism” will combine smart-city technical solutions to accumulate tourism-related data, and increase access to necessary information for visitors, which will also include the improvement of the urban environment by installing smart lights, public Wi-Fi network coverage, and cultural integrated zones. Thanks to this project, the city will be able to continue to develop into a tourism city in both traditional and modern directions. Therefore, this launching ceremony is a stepping stone that Hue City will create many accompanying values ​​with tourism resources for continued development.

According to the Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, Mr. Vo Le Nhat, the successful implementation of the project will make an important contribution to the stable and sustainable development of the culture and tourism sector, on the basis of integrating technology into tourism infrastructure, exploiting and promoting the cultural and tourism resources of Hue City in particular and the whole province in general. For this reason, the city wishes to continue to witness close coordination between experts and managers from the Republic of Korea and Vietnam so that the project will be completed on schedule, with high quality.

According to the report of 2024 Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) released by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) recently, Hue City made a strong impression by entering the top 10 localities with the best economic governance quality in the country, scoring a total of 71.13 points, ranking 6th out of 63 provinces and cities.
