Implementing comprehensive cooperation between Hue and the Australian State of Tasmania

HNN.VN - On the afternoon of August 13, Hue City People's Committee Office announced that a delegation from Hue City, led by Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong, had a series of working sessions in Hobart City, Tasmania, Australia. These sessions were part of the Program to promote Vietnamese localities in Australia in 2025, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation had the participation of Mr. Pham Hung Tam, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, representatives from the Department of External Relations (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and leaders from various departments, branches and sectors of Hue City.

The working trip aimed to introduce Hue's image and potential to localities in Australia, while also promoting the establishment of long-term and practical cooperative relationship.

Strengthening cooperation in education, research and sustainable development

During a working session at the University of Tasmania, Chairman Nguyen Van Phuong introduced to the partners Hue University, one of Vietnam's major training and research centers. He proposed cooperation programs such as faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects, and joint or dual degree training in the fields of marine science, aquaculture, climate change, and sustainable development.

Mr. Rufus Black, Vice Chancellor of the University of Tasmania, expressed his desire for cooperation and the readiness to welcome Hue students for study, as well as to send Australian students to Hue for educational and cultural experiences. This initiative is part of Australia's strategy to develop teams of young global leaders.

Strengthening the relationship between Hue and Hobart

In a working session with Ms. Anna Reynolds, Lord Mayor of Hobart, both parties agreed that Hobart and Hue have significant potential for cooperation in higher education, sustainable development, maritime affairs, climate change, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong highlighted the similarities between the two cities, and invited Ms. Reynolds to visit Hue, as well as looking forward to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation.

At a working session with Ms. Barbara Becker, the Governor of Tasmania, both sides noted that there is still much room for cooperation not only in heritage and sustainable tourism, but also in high-tech agriculture, education - training, and logistics. The Governor pledged to support Hue in connecting with businesses and agencies in Tasmania, and promoting the establishment of a long-term cooperative relationship with Hobart.

Working with Mr. Dennis Hendriks, Director of Development, Department of State Growth of Tasmania, both parties agreed to continue sharing information on development orientations, and to promote cooperation in education, culture, tourism, and sustainable development, with the goal of signing a Hue - Hobart cooperation MoU.

At the Ministry of Science and Technology of Tasmania, Ms. Madeleine Ogilvi, Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, and Digital Economy, stated that the state had never had an international cooperation at the state level with a foreign locality. She expressed her desire to build a friendly relationship with Hue, especially in conservation, science and technology, clean energy, sustainable development, and climate change response. Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong invited the Minister and Tasmanian art troupes to attend Hue Festival 2026, and expressed his hope to increase cultural and scientific - technological exchanges.

Connecting businesses

During a meeting with Vietnamese Business Association in Tasmania, Mr. Ho Nhut Tien, Chairman of the Association, introduced to the attendees prominent businesses and expressed his desire to cooperate with businesses in Hue. Businesses accompanying the delegation, such as Saigon Hue Investment Joint Stock Company, LEC Group, Chan May Port, Kim Long Motor Hue, and VietinBank - Hue branch, etc., also presented their strengths and sought opportunities for cooperation with Australian partners.

After concluding their program in Tasmania, the delegation will travel to Sydney (New South Wales) to participate in activities promoting Hue City and connecting businesses, as part of the program to promote Vietnamese localities in Australia in 2025.
