Enhancing professional expertise through international cooperation

HNN.VN - In the context of increasingly deep international integration, cooperation in the healthcare sector has become one of the key drivers contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, enabling domestic doctors to access advanced techniques and gradually enhance their professional expertise.

Experts from Nuoy Reconstructive International (United States) transferring expertise to doctors at Hue Odonto-Stomatology Hospital

In mid-March 2026, the atmosphere at Hue Odonto-Stomatology Hospital became urgent and vibrant. Domestic doctors collaborated with specialists from Nuoy Reconstructive International (United States) to implement a reconstructive and aesthetic surgery program. Within just two days, nearly 30 patients were screened, consulted, and underwent surgical interventions. Among them were many cases involving complex craniofacial deformities, which require high-level techniques and specialized expertise.

One notable case was of Ms. Duong Lac Th. (Phu Xuan Ward, Hue), who had lived for many years with low self-esteem due to a deformity on her eye area affecting both vision and appearance. “After the surgery combining eyelid reconstruction and mandibular bone grafting, not only was my visual function improved, but I also regained confidence in life,” she shared.

Not stopping at individual cases, the program also received patients from provinces and cities such as Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Da Nang, and Gia Lai, presenting with various deformities including cleft lip and palate, facial asymmetry, overbite and underbite, and mandibular hypoplasia. For many children from disadvantaged backgrounds, this was not only an opportunity for free treatment but also a turning point that would help them gain confidence in their studies and social integration. Defects that once hindered daily communication and activities are gradually being corrected, opening up brighter prospects for the future.

A key highlight of international cooperation lies in its effectiveness in training and technology transfer. Throughout the working process, foreign experts not only directly participated in surgeries but also shared experience and guided modern treatment procedures for domestic medical staff. Case conferences and professional meetings became practical forums for knowledge exchange, helping young doctors improve their skills and update new advances in reconstructive and maxillofacial surgery.

According to Dr. Le Thua Trung Hau, Head of the Department of Aesthetic and Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery at Hue Odonto-Stomatology Hospital, hands-on training in a real clinical environment delivers far greater effectiveness than theoretical learning alone. Through each operation, young doctors not only learn techniques but also develop clinical thinking, the ability to handle complex situations, and a professional working attitude. This forms an essential foundation for building a high-quality medical workforce capable of meeting the increasingly demanding requirements of the sector.

The effectiveness of international cooperation is also affirmed through long-term programs. At Hue Central Hospital, collaboration with international medical organizations over nearly a decade has enabled thousands of patients with cleft lip and palate and other maxillofacial abnormalities to receive free surgeries. In the March 2026 mission alone, dozens of children continued to undergo interventions, offering opportunities to improve both appearance and function.

Behind these figures are deeply moving stories. Many children, after surgery, are now able to speak more clearly, eat more easily, and confidently attend school. “My child feels as if he were born again after the successful surgery. From a deformed face and a crooked smile that was heartbreaking to see, his appearance has now completely changed, becoming brighter and more radiant,” shared Ms. Tran Thi Tu from Quang Ngai Province.

It is clear that international cooperation serves as a “bridge” helping to shorten the gap with advanced global medicine. Through such collaborative programs, many modern techniques such as digitally assisted reconstructive surgery, implant placement, and laser applications have gradually been implemented at the local level. This not only improves treatment quality but also reduces pressure on central-level hospitals, allowing people to access high-quality healthcare services close to where they live.
