Following the survey, Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Nguyen Khac Toan assessed that eastern Hue possesses significant potential for developing ecotourism, experiential tourism, and community-based tourism based on the advantages of the Tam Giang lagoon ecosystem, distinctive natural landscapes, indigenous culture, and the lives of fishermen living along the lagoon area.

Chairman Nguyen Khac Toan emphasized that the development orientation for lagoon tourism must prioritize the conservation of natural ecosystems while promoting community cultural values and creating sustainable livelihoods for local residents. In particular, attention should be paid to effectively exploiting natural landscapes, distinctive cuisine, traditional occupations, fishing activities, and the unique ecological spaces of the Tam Giang lagoon region.

Regarding the Ru Cha and Hai Duong areas, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan requested that relevant units study and develop ecotourism products and nature-based experiences associated with protecting mangrove forests, coastal landscapes, and climate change adaptation, while also effectively tapping the potential for marine tourism, community tourism, and experiential activities in lagoon-side areas.

Alongside tourism product development, city leaders particularly noted the need for synchronized investment in infrastructure serving tourism development in eastern Hue, especially the transportation system connecting Dam Chuon - Ru Cha - Thuan An in order to form integrated tour routes linking lagoon spaces, mangrove forests, and marine tourism.

Chairman Nguyen Khac Toan requested local authorities and relevant agencies to study upgrading transport routes to the Hai Duong area; invest in boat docks, rest stops, tourist service infrastructure, and public spaces along the lagoon and coast to facilitate the formation of ecotourism and community experience tours and routes; while also paying attention to site clearance work and creating clean land funds for infrastructure development. He also stressed the need to strengthen efforts to attract businesses to invest in high-quality ecotourism and experiential tourism products while still ensuring harmony with natural landscapes, the ecological environment, and community life; gradually turning the Tam Giang - Dam Chuon - Ru Cha area into a distinctive community-based ecotourism destination of Hue and the central region.

Opening pathways for coastal resort tourism development

For a long time, tourism in Hue has largely relied on cultural and heritage assets, resulting in short visitor stays, relatively low spending levels, and limited value creation. As tourism trends shift strongly toward resort-based, experiential, and sports-oriented travel, developing marine tourism, especially coastal resort tourism, is not only a new direction but also a necessity for restructuring the visitor market toward higher-spending segments.
