Hue chess has long been renowned for its famous female players, such as Nguyen Thi Thuan Hoa, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Hoang Thi Nhu Y, and Vo Thi Kim Phung, etc. After these outstanding players retired or moved to compete for other localities, Hue chess recently received good news at the beginning of 2026 as 18-year-old Nguyen Ha Khanh Linh was awarded the title of FIDE Master by the World Chess Federation.

On March 28th, at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School, the Department of Education and Training, in coordination with the City Chess Federation and the City Sports Training and Competition Center, organized the primary school chess tournament for the 2025-2026 academic year, competing for Huong Giang Cup.

The 22nd Central Region Age Group Western Chess and Chinese Chess tournament - 2026 opened on the afternoon of February 26 at 24 To Huu Street (Vy Da Ward, Hue City), attracting nearly 700 players from 16 units and localities across the country.

The 10th National Sports Games are scheduled for November 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Dong Thap. The Chess and Chinese Chess Tournament at the 10th City Sports Games (2025-2026) kicked off on the morning of December 26 at the City Library (No.29A Le Quy Don Street). This marks the 9th and 10th events of the Games, following boat racing, karate, taekwondo, shuttlecock kicking, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and vovinam.
