Golden season in Dan Dien peanut fields

HNN.VN - The fields in Nghia Lo, Nam Phu - Nho Lam, and Bac Vong Tay, etc., have long been considered the “peanut capital” of the low-lying Dan Dien.

Winter-Spring Crop: The Season of ProsperityA Bountiful Harvest in March

As early as 4 a.m., when the sky was still dark, silhouettes of farmers could already be seen across the peanut fields in Nghia Lo, Nam Phu - Nho Lam, and Bac Vong Tay…, with their voices and laughter filling the air.

This year, the heat arrived early. Although it is only the beginning of summer, outdoor temperatures have already reached 37°C - 38°C on many days, with intense sunshine. Yet for the people of Dan Dien Commune, sunshine is a blessing for peanut crops. The sunnier the weather is, the fuller the peanuts become, the faster the peanuts get dry, and the better price they fetch.

Sweat glistened on her sunburnt face, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hue, a resident of Nghia Lo Hamlet, could not hide her joy: “Never before have we had such a good peanut harvest. The peanuts are uniform and full. Taking advantage of the sunny weather, we dry them and can sell them for about 2.8 million VND per quintal. We are so happy.”

Hue’s smile reflects the shared happiness of many local households after seasons of crop failures caused by natural disasters. People in Nghia Lo, Nam Phu - Nho Lam, and Bac Vong Tay,… still vividly remember their fields submerged in floodwaters last year. Therefore, this peanut crop is not simply a harvest season, but also a season of revival and hope after a long period of hardship.

Winter-Spring Crop: The Season of Prosperity

I did not grow up in a family devoted solely to farming, yet my childhood held a clear and gentle chapter shaped by the cycles of rain and sun in my grandparents’ fields. Those years, and the memories they carry, have left a lasting mark, so that even now, I am stirred by an inexpressible emotion whenever I see farmers busily preparing for a new sowing season.

The chrysanthemum fields grown for the upcoming Lunar New Year of the Horse in Thanh Thuy Ward have been devastated, leaving flower growers with heavy hearts. Everything they have cultivated over the past three months has been swept away by floodwaters.

While not as famous as the Sonneratia forest in Cu Lao Dung (Soc Trang), the Sonneratia forest along the Lam River in Nghe An, or the one in Cu Lao Bac Phuoc (Quang Tri), etc., the Sonneratia trees along the coastal areas of Hue City are nevertheless taking root deeply in the mud and soil of the land every day.
