Extending life for stomach cancer patients

HNN.VN - It is the target of the provincial scientific research "Researching application of endoscopic gastrectomy surgery and D2 ganglia cleansing, combined with chemoradiation therapy for gastric cancer treatment" conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital and his colleagues. The Department of Science and Technology set up an acceptance council for the research on July 4.

The subject, which was first performed in Vietnam, selected 35 patients diagnosed with gastric cancer based on clinical examination, ultrasound, endoscopy, abdominal CT scan and they were prescribed gastrectomy through endoscopic, ganglia cleansing and chemoradiation therapy at Hue Central Hospital; the number of male patients accounted for 62.9% among them.

In the implementation process, the group undertakes research on clinical and subclinical characteristics; surgical procedure of endoscopic gastrectomy surgery and ganglia cleansing; as well as studying post-surgery results at the same time; complications of chemoradiation therapy... The results of the study showed that 100% of patients after the surgery had no complication; ultrasound examination showed no injury, and the probability of living more fully after 24 months was 90.2%.
