Asthma prevention counseling

Respiratory specialists gave the people detailed advice on medical history, clinical examination, spirometry and recovery tests of bronchiectasis...

After the diagnosis of asthma or COPD, the patient is counseled about treatment, provided with knowledge about the disease, the drugs for treatment and home monitoring for better outcomes.

These are factors contributing to good management and treatment of outpatients, reducing the number of hospitalized patients and the burden of family and society, improving the quality of life for patients.

II Specialized Doctor Hoang Thi Lan Huong, Deputy Director of Hue Central Hospital said that asthma and COPD are the two most common chronic respiratory diseases today. In severe cases, patients often have difficulty with breathing; and, more severe, resulting in respiratory distress that leads to death.

According to the World Health Organization, there are about 600 million people with asthma and COPD; more than 3 million people die each year. COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in the world.

In Vietnam, according to the results of the epidemiological study, the prevalence of COPD is 4.1% in people over 40 and tends to increase due to smoking, alcohol and environmental pollution. Currently, if prevention and management are good, the morbidity and mortality rates of COPD will be significantly reduced.
